PRAYER: I Love You, O LORD, My Strength

IMG01033-20111002-1432 (2)I love You, oh Lord my Strength for that is what You are. There is no other strength besides or beyond Yours. You are my everything. You made us so we are not able to carry the burdens of the world. But then neither do we have to. We are not even supposed to. You are.

We keep looking for here to be heaven, but it’s just not and never will be. There is such a battle afoot here—such an onslaught and we miss our ability to understand if we don’t recognize the battle.

Holy, infinite One, You are with us in this and You are so far beyond it. None of that which shakes us to our core, shakes You at all for You are not surprised. Through it You reign and bring Your victory through Your victorious, conquering love.  The enemy smashes and wreaks havoc and destruction. You cause eternal life to rise from it. This is Your goal. Life by Your, through You, in You and for You. This is success: a life turned to You recognizing Your Godhead and seeking to follow (never perfectly, but in abject humility, grateful for Your supremacy and constant leading. There is no other success.  Every other striving fades.

You work through all things. All things. Your efforts never stop. No. You are not surprised at the enemy’s strategies. You simply turn these against Him eventually to bring Your victory, which is reconciliation with You, restoration and life into many hearts.

Love unstoppable. Love unconquerable. Love, which contains all dominion and uses this only for eternal good.  Love ever-vigilant. Love always compassionate.  Walking with us through the worst (because You Yourself have been there for love of us), and carrying us when necessary.

Reveal to me more of You today. Cause me by Your Spirit’s work not to miss Your voice. Lead me in the way You would have me go in spite of circumstances around me and for those I love. Reign in me. Ravage me with Your truth. Conquer me with realizations of Your awesome wonder and majesty. For these and these alone, buoy me up with resiliency for today.  You ask me to stand firm and watch the deliverance You will bring. You promise to beat back the adversary’s advances and bury this enemy who pursues to destroy, beneath the same sea that You part for me and my family.

But I can only stand firm long enough to see Your victory with the unveiling of Your majesty before my eyes. With a vision of heaven’s throne room where You are at its center and the joy of all those who have gone before reverberating in unceasing worship through the atmosphere. You are where my help comes from. From You. You are where the only true purpose is found—uniting my heart to Yours. Your joy is my strength. Your confidence and unwavering resolve is the Rock upon which I stand. From here through eternity Your love does not fail.

This is one of Your most foundational promises. You say You love all beyond what I will ever grasp. I can and must rely on this. Your perspective, Lord. Your view. So much more than from here to natural death. Eternity. Reunion. With You where we will hunger and thirst no more for we will be finally, fully satiated in Your presence. Justice. Mercy. All because You are love unstoppable. All confidence is in You. Glorious and victorious.  All hope is in You, holy Repairer of every breach, because You, too long for and work for this eternal, blissful reunion through all things. Yes, through all things.

I can do nothing without You. Keep my eyes on You. Keep my eyes on Your vision for our future. Help me guard my heart, mind and thoughts to keep them captive to Your heart and thoughts. Give me the help I need to lean on You. Lead on, blessed Shepherd who goes after every lost sheep. Lead on. You reign, and Your reign is glorious.

Our Lord is Interested Even in the Smallest Things

Not the photo for which I had hoped, but a reminder of how God cared about the small stuff....AGAIN!
Not the photo for which I had hoped, but a reminder of how God cared about the small stuff….AGAIN!

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2014

Our God cares about even what seem like the smallest things. Daily He gives us examples of how indeed every hair on our heads is counted. Yesterday evening was just one more example.

These days I find myself weekly traveling between two towns, with a portion of life lived in each. It is complete blessing! It is part of God’s exquisite provision for our family. But sometimes it makes one wonder whether different items are left here or still there.

My sunglasses have been missing for a week. It has not been anything to panic about, but I have wondered where they were. I knew that the last time I saw them I had been on an evening walk around the local reservoir with one of my new friends and neighbors. I had been wearing them, taken them off and was sure I had brought them back up to our home. But now in the other town at the other house, they were not with me. It was the next morning on my way to work, when I reached for my sunglasses in their usual spot clipped to the driver’s side visor and first became aware they were missing.

Could I have left them on the kitchen counter in the other place by the reservoir? On Saturday both my husband and I were up at that place and there were no sunglasses to be seen.   Only after we left again, did I wonder if perhaps I had set them inadvertently with my hiking hat which was put away in the cupboard there.

Truly, I couldn’t imagine where the sunglasses could be.  I asked God to show me where I had set them—to remind me what I had done with them. I was not worried. Thinking about it was not a preoccupation, but I did wonder off and on and talked to God about it briefly.

I had had them for probably almost fifteen years. They had been expensive to purchase. The eye doctor had told me such sunglasses were important for eye health and so the investment had been made. All these years I had neither broken them nor misplaced them. Now, I was at a complete loss regarding where they could be.

Yesterday afternoon, it was time to drive up to the home near the reservoir again. I had had an evening meeting scheduled, which got postponed at the last minute until today, thus instead of arriving in the dark, I arrived as the last rays of sunshine were illuminating clusters of beautiful yellow wildflowers along the front fence-line of our home. I felt the unmistakable nudge of the Holy to go and take a few photos. I walked down the driveway quickly and went down on my knees near the flowers to attempt to capture the lighting before it faded. My knees sunk slowly into the ground still soft from recent rains as I bent closer to the earth in order to try to get a particular hoped-for perspective in the photos. The late evening rays of the sun washed everything they touched in a golden glow.  However, I was a bit disappointed. The angle of the shadows seemed to interfere with capturing the desired perspective a bit. I decided to go take photos of some of the other wildflowers in the meadow which were also momentarily awash in this golden sunlight, knowing that with the coming heat which was forecast in a few short days the wildflowers would likely be dried up and gone until next spring. I reached my hand down into the yellow flowers by the fence in order to provide additional support as I rose up to get moving onto these other wildflowers. To my amazement, my hand felt something beneath it buried in the sea of yellow. It was my sunglasses!!!

Then I remembered. The week before, on the way home from the walk around the reservoir, the sun had also been casting a golden glow on the property and I had tried to capture the beauty with a few photos. The sunglasses, so essential as we had begun our walk, had become superfluous as shadows lengthened and so I had simply hung onto them in the same hand as the camera. When I had seen the flowers along the fence-line in the setting sun, I had hurried to try to capture the image with the camera. Down on my knees for that same desired perspective I had tried today, I must have set the sunglasses down and forgotten to pick them up.

Left to my own devices and good ideas, I would have never found them. I never would have remembered leaving them there. But God cares about even the smallest, seemingly unimportant. God cared about enabling the lost sunglasses to be found. I had asked Him where they were and in His divine goodness, He had used a postponed appointment to put me in His timing, so His Spirit could nudge me to get into the exact location and position I needed to be to find them. Sunglasses. How our God cares! His Spirit knows the heart of the Father and leads. He does answer every prayer.  Dare to remember…He has done it for each of us and continues to…..God of the universe; yet intimately involved in the details for each of us.  Amazing….

Embracing New Seasons

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2013

IMG-20130819-02201The leaves on some of the trees have begun to display fringes of orange and red while others have taken on the golden hue, which is a prelude to fall.  It seems early for this in Northern California.  Yet though the heat still presses in heavily from all sides during the day, there is an undeniable coolness in each morning’s air which forebodes the unstoppable changing of seasons.

The seasons of creation (spring, summer, autumn, winter and then spring again) remind us there are seasons in our lives as well.  For me in our little family it has been an eventful seven days: all good; all God; yet still unquestionably emotionally intense and embodying the essence of the changing seasons of life.

On the one hand, last Monday began the great joy and blessing of three full days at The Creation Lab in Turlock, California initiating recording of a new Christmas worship CD.  Preparation for this has entailed a constant “listening” in my heart the past few months for the eight new Christmas melodies and lyrics which would become the worship songs the Lord wanted composed and recorded for release on this project.

There is always somewhat of a spiritual struggle in this listening, composing, recording process, doing emotional and mental battle to fight back the negative whispers of the adversary who tries to tell me there are enough other songs out there already and that it is foolish for me to go into the studio to release more.  And yet once there engaged in the arranging and recording process, Jesus always blesses me, affirming His assignment.  This time, He gave me a vision of Himself laughing for joy in the corner of the room as we worked while angels cheered and danced rejoicing that Jesus would be more celebrated as a result of these songs.  The Holy Spirit was very tangibly with us as gifted producer, Michael Everett, and pianist/keyboardist, Mark Davis, worked with me to arrange these songs on Monday and with Brandon Davis as we began the recording process on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Michael and Mark continued with three more full, long days of work, while remotely I covered them in intercession.  God’s will with this music is all we want. We want His sound released and nothing else. (Holy Spirit, come and renew the face of the earth. Holy Spirit, come and have Your way with us.)

Emotionally fulfilling and physically exhausting, preparing and releasing His music is part of a new, delightful, ongoing season into which the Lord led me seven years ago.  The people He has brought into my life, the process and the fruit He brings through it in the lives of others, blesses me beyond measure!

This “Christmas Worship II” project will be complete for release next autumn for the 2014 Christmas season. Working on yet another worship project for Him this past week was a time for spiritual and emotional jubilation!

Simultaneously this week has brought changes in our household.   Each of our three young adult children has been preparing for the next step of their individual journeys—all of which begin today.  Our eldest starts her drive tonight with a fully loaded car to move to 750 miles away in search of her first full-time job since college graduation. Our son, who is the youngest, begins his second year of junior college.  And I drove our middle daughter to the airport this morning to catch a pre-dawn flight back East returning to college for her third year.  We will not see the girls again until Thanksgiving.  All parents with grown children understand this releasing phase is part and parcel of parenthood.

Over the summer, my husband and I also finally purchased a home in an area to which we hope to transition in the future.  It is a place where we have more space to breathe in God’s creation.  So now we stand straddling the here and the there unsure of where, how or what God is doing, but at rest in Him until He reveals the next step.

Thus a family, we are undeniably in a time of transition.  We are at a threshold looking back and forward at the same time, but as yet in between.  And despite the profound goodness of that which seems to be coming, for a mother oh how letting go of what has been also hurts. There is a grief which goes along with the change of seasons—an acknowledgement of already missing that which is past and will not come again—even as one is engulfed in a wave of unabashed thanksgiving to God where every good memory is simultaneously stored and savored.  Therefore though I know our daughters going on their way is right and good (and I am their BIGGEST cheerleader), this morning my mother’s heart still aches a bit.  I waited a long time to be a mother raising children.  It was a childhood dream.  I never wanted it to end. And yet, the season is definitely done. It is time to let go and embrace that which is to come.

This morning as I grappled with momentary emotional overload after returning to my car alone in the airport parking lot, the Holy Spirit promptly engulfed me reminding me of two things. First, grief is good. It means we have chosen to care for others—to love (!) and to be vulnerable in that love.  Secondly, He encouraged me that I needed to look at these pains as more than just grief for what is no longer. These were simultaneously His birth pangs for yet another season of service for Him which He was bringing.

During our brief time in this mortal life, He was always about using us in new and different ways through whom to reveal Himself so that others might recognize Him as God and begin to search for Him themselves.  I was to embrace the birth pangs and look forward to the new and/or broadened ways in which I was now to go forth and serve Him.

Seeing the days before me with new eyes, I followed a prompting by His Spirit on the way home to drive to a nearby hill, park, watch the dawn and worship Him. The pastel colors which swept across the sky as evidence of the dawn to come deepened minute by minute as one by one every cloud received its gilded edges until finally the sun made its magnificent appearance above the horizon.  Another day had come.  It was no longer dark, but light.

“Lord, we greet this new day filled with the hope of what You will do with it. Through good and bad You are there to comfort and restore in ways which have eternally beautiful, wonderful effect. Indeed our hope is in You! Therefore even today we can and do rejoice! Selah!”

And now for each person who will read this, I pray a blessing.  May God bless you today in a new and deeper way. May He reveal more of His most Sacred Heart. May you be renewed in spirit by His Living Water and may He flow through you to quench the otherwise unquenchable thirst of others even as He quenches yours.  May He give you the strength to revel in every new dawn He allows in your life—even (or perhaps especially) when it may be accompanied by grief.  In Jesus’ mighty, wonderful, beautiful name, Amen

Thanks-Giving for Thanksgiving

Thanks be to You, Lord from whom all things come. Your love overwhelms us. We bow in awe, continual thanks upon our lips.

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011  www.holyspiritpress.org   www.eaglesnestfoundation.org

PSALM 100:4-5 (NKJV)

4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
5 For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.

In the United States we have entered the season of Thanksgiving.  Over the years this has become a time to celebrate friends and family.  This is good, and yet Thanksgiving is so much more. Consider the name, “Thanks-giving”.  Giving thanks….Give thanks to whom? Of course, Christians know.  Not just general thanks, but thanks to the One who is in control and from whom all things come: the One true God who is LORD.

When we give thanks to God it is an expression of our trust in Him – that we believe He is who He says, and will fulfill what He promises.  Our thanks is an outward representation of our fear of the Lord above all else.  We are not afraid of Him, but we have a reverential awe before Him.  We understand it is His approval we need –  no other.  We know it is His power which will have highest effect – no other.  We know our life is in Him and He is the One who enables us to have all we have.

When we give thanks to God it brings us into the intimacy of His Dwelling Place and it helps us enter the REST He offers us in all circumstances.  We receive His gifts of peace and joy.

Giving thanks is not hard.  We tend to worry (which He cautions against) and as soon as God answers one prayer we are  quick to send up another. We tend to be unnecessarily consumed with our needs (expressed in worry) instead of resting in how God promises to answer them.  Stopping to give thanks is powerful.

To get started pause and consider the many prayers He already has answered. Make a written list.  Include both those things which seem small (like His opening traffic-filled roads to get us somewhere on time) to those which seemed larger (getting us through illnesses or unemployment.)  Funny thing is, to Him all our prayer requests are the same size.  Next consider and make a list of all God promises through Jesus.

And so we give thanks and God is honored, but we are the ones who are blessed.  HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Selah! [Pause and calmly think of that!]

Christmas is coming.  A few years ago, the Lord whispered to my heart that He wanted to be worshipped at Christmas and He showed me how many of the songs we sing beautifully tell the story of His birth and why He came, but very few actually worship Him during this festive season.  As a result in December 2009 I was in the studio beginning to record CHRISTMAS WORSHIP, which includes 7 new, original Christmas worship songs, which the Lord had me compose specifically for this project.  Please consider giving the gift of CHRISTMAS WORSHIP this Christmas.  It can be purchased at www.holyspiritpress.org or amazon.com  http://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Worship-Elizabeth-Fulgaro/dp/B004D9931G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1320069144&sr=8-2  or CDbaby.com  http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/elizabethfulgaro3.  Music clips can be heard at the CD Baby or amazon.com links.  May God receive the honor and worship He is due this Christmas season.

God’s Toddler

We seek You, we listen, You speak, then You lead us in the way we should go. What delight!

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2008/2011    www.holyspiritpress.org   www.eaglesnestfoundation.org

Note:  The original version of this devotion was originally published March 3, 2008 as part of the weekly HIS TOUCH OF HOPE devotions I wrote and sent out by email between 2003 and 2009.   But as with everything related to God, the Truth it contains does not become out of date and sometimes it is good to be reminded of how He works. ~ Elizabeth

8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, ” declares the LORD.  9″As the heavens are higher than the earth, So are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”  (Isa. 55:8-9 NIV)

27 “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.  28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.  30 I and the Father are one.” (John 10:27-30 NIV)

7…these are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.  (Rev. 3:7b NIV)

Many of us have come to understand that it is in following God’s will for our lives that we will find the greatest joy, inner peace and personal satisfaction in life.  However, the difficulty can be figuring out what God’s will is.

We may have reached the point where we understand that God frequently speaks to us by dropping thoughts into your minds (versus via an audible voice).  We already may have learned one way to tell whether it is His voice is to take our thoughts captive to Christ.  That is, to weigh what we think we “hear” with the Word of God.  Since God is the Word and His Word is Truth, He cannot change and He cannot tell a lie.  Therefore God cannot ask anything of us which would contradict the Truth of who He is as found in His Word.

However, even when we think we are hearing from Him, often we think we are hearing from Him, often we can afraid to follow where He leads.  We are convinced His way is best (and it is!)  but we fear hearing wrong or misunderstanding.  In these instances it helps to remember our position in relationship with God.

When we become believers, we are born again – spiritually instead of physically.  We become adopted children of God where He is and remains the parent.

We begin as babies which feed on spiritual milk.  We grow in our relationship with Him and become weaned children on spiritual food.  Yet, no matter how old we get in physical human years, because He is God and therefore superior forever, we will be as children in comparison.

God is very clear.  His ways are not our ways.  In fact, His ways and thoughts are superior to ours (and thus beyond our comprehension) as the heavens are above the earth!  When we try to put this difference into understandable terms, it can help to consider perhaps we are to God as toddlers are to their parents.

A toddler is no longer on milk, but solid food.  A toddler can follow where a parent leads.  But the parent still is aware that the toddler’s experience base is way too narrow for it to fully comprehend everything the parent tells is.  For this reason, the parent is more concerned with the child’s attitude towards instructions that perfect execution.  The parent also takes whatever steps necessary to safeguard the little one along the way.

For instance, before giving a toddler instruction and setting it on its way, a parent puts child-proof locks on any doors not meant for us to go through.  When we try these doors, they won’t even open.  In addition, as long as the parent can tell the child is doing his or her best to obey given his or her ability to understand, there is no anger when the child takes a wrong step.

This is much like it must be with God.  So long as we are doing our best with our limited human comprehension to obey what we think He is telling us, He will not abandon us or be angry if we mis-step.  Quite the contrary, seeing our heart for obedience, but understanding our limitations, He will already have gone ahead and put child-proof locks on any doors not meant for us to go through.  When we try these doors, they won’t even open.  In addition, if we begin to go in a direction which is not His perfect will, He will call to us.  If we don’t understand, then He will come and take our hands, or even scoop us up in His arms and move us, doing wahtever is necessary as our perfect parent to make sure we get back on track going the direction He always intended us to go.

Now it is quite a different story, if we hear His voice and instruction, but defiantly try to run in the opposite direction. Then we should expect consequences which aren’t so pleasant.  But if we sincerely seek His will, we do not have to fear losing our way.  He will take care of us.

So be encouraged to check your heart-attitude.  Is it surrendered to Him?  Listen to where You think He is leading. Dare to take a step in that direction. Try the door before you. God will not leave you to your own devices.  Trust our perfect Father God to be Almight, Omniscient, Loving God and sovereignly direct you where you need to go.

3 In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”  4″How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked.  “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!”  5 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.  6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the  Spirit gives birth to spirit.  7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.'”  (John 3:3-7 NIV)

12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God– 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. (John 1:12-13 NIV)

5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will — 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. (Eph. 1:5-8)

2 He called a little child and had him stand among them.  3 And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  (Matt. 18:2-3 NIV)

18 Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion.  For the LORD is a God of justice.  Blessed are all who wait for him!  19 O people of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more.  How gracious he will be when you cry for help!  As soon as he hears, he will answer you.  20 Although the LORD gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them.  21 Whether you turn to the right or the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “Think this way; walk in it.” (Isa. 30:18-21 NIV)

Selah! [Pause, and calmly think of that!]

Until  next time “may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Rom. 15:13 NIV)

The Heavens Declare the Glory of God

All creation declares Your glory & the glory of Your way. Speak to us, teach us, use us, lead us all for Your glory, too! We are Yours....

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011   www.holyspiritpress.org    www.holyspiritpress.org   www.eaglesnestfoundation.org

PSALM 19 (Amplified)

1  “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows and proclaims His handiwork.

2 Day after day pours forth speech, and night after night shows forth knowledge.

3 There is no speech nor spoken word [from the stars]; their voice is not heard.

4 Yet their voice [in evidence] goes out through all the earth, their sayings to the end of the world.  Of the heavens has God made a tent for the sun.

5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; and it rejoices as a strong man to run his course.

6 Its going forth is from the end of the heavens, and it scircuit to the ends of it; and nothing [yes, no one] is hidden from the heat of it.

7 The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the [whole] person; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

8 The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure and bright, enlightening the eyes.

9 The [reverent] fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, even than much fine gold; they are sweeter also than honey and drippings from the honeycomb.

11 Moreover, by them is Your servant warned (reminded, illuminated, and instructed); and in keeping them there is great reward.

12 Who can discern his lapses and errors?  Clear me from hidden [and unconscious] faults.

13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then shall I be blameless, and I shall be innocent and clear of great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, impenetrable] Rock and my Redeemer.

“The heavens declare the glory of God….”  Such a beautiful phrase!  And yet, what does it mean?

How do the heavens declare His glory?  What does it mean to us that day after day pours forth speech and night after night shows forth knowledge, that though the stars have no speech, their voice is heard in evidence through all the earth?

Just this: the heavens declare His glory, and the stars speak to us steadily without speech about God’s Way.  All creation willingly submits itself to the sovereignty of God because it must.  All creation exists in His peace, emanating His peace, for He moves freely throughout all of His creation, using it whatever way He wills because it is completely subject to Him.  Only humanity was created with free will, necessitating an ongoing, conscious choice, whether to submit to the will of God (while trusting Him and resting in Him thus revealing His glory) or attempting to run away from His will.

Is He our God or is He not?  If He is, then He is worthy of our trust.  If He is not, then only our will matters and we are in control.  But are we ever really in control, no matter what we decide?  What power do we really have as individuals?

Thus we come full circle back to creation as a picture of God and His Way.  Can we control the sun?  He does.  Can we cause the weather we want to come to pass?  He can.  Do we control earthquakes or hurricanes?  He does.

We must re-assess our view of ourselves in light of the rest of creation, remembering we are the created, not the Creator.  Like the heavens, our role is to display His glory, that more might know He is God: ambassadors and lamps to shine His Light for the brief generation in which He has placed us.

Every time we smile because we know He is with us, every time we reach out with compassion because we feel His Holy Spirit nudge, every time we choose to forgive because we call on Jesus and He gives us the strength we could not have on our own – in each of these circumstances and so many more we fulfill our life purpose every day because He is using us to reveal the glory of God.

We are blessed to let our lives declare His glory.  We are blessed that He is in control and we are not.  We can walk in constant peace which surpasses understanding and joy which is not determined by circumstances, but springs up from within because He is God.

Selah! [Pause and calmly think of that!]

The Dawn of the SON

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011

This morning the dawn was magnificent: purple-tinged clouds with cream-colored edges gilded gold, visible beams of light streaming through the few clouds on the horizon and the sky just above them bright orange in anticipation.  And a thought gently dropped into my mind – a reminder and message of encouragement from the Father via His Spirit.  The beauty of this dawn was magnified by the clouds…

Every day in a way which no human can stop there is the dawn of the sun.  the natural speaks of the spiritual.  That is to say, God is God and unchanging. Thus the way things work in the creation we can see, gives us pictures of how things work in the spiritual realm which is beyond what our five physical senses can interpret.  There is the dawn of the sun every morning into what would otherwise be darkness and there is the dawn of the Son every day into our lives where there would otherwise be spiritual darkness.

So often our focus in on the clouds in our lives – the potential problems without solutions we can control, which loom on the horizon.  Sometimes these clouds have gathered and are producing a storm, which may be merely unpleasant or cause us to fear for our safety.  We need to remember in all our storms, God is there.  Just as the sun is always above the clouds so the Son is always present in spite of the clouds.  Clouds are temporary.  Storms never last. Always the sky eventually clears and the son is visible again.  Even when all we can see are the clouds, the sun (and the Son) are shining above them.

God meant it when He said:

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Prov. 3:5-6)  “This is what the LORD says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it – the LORD is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearachble things you do not know.” (Jer. 33:2-3)

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. … Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?  And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matt. 6:19-21,25-34)

May your day be richly blessed with an awareness of His presence in ALL things!

Always God’s Child

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011

Yesterday, July 4th was a quiet family day at home.  Finally this week in Northern California the heat of summer had settled in and the pool’s cool waters were inviting.  I watched our children who are now adult and near-adult swimming and laughing together.
(Laughter in our home between loved ones enjoying each other’s company has always been one of my favorite sounds!)

Utterly at peace and content, I turned away to fix a special celebratory dinner and dessert. As I walked toward the kitchen, I remembered clearly how not so long ago I would not have turned away when the children were in the pool.  They had been smaller, younger and lessexperienced.  It had been my responsibility to watch them at all times.   They didn’t know the danger the water could pose, so I had stood by on constant alert – not
in fear, but in conscientiousness at all times.

God is our Father. He is the perfect parent.  He is unchanging.  He is and will ever remain
so far superior to us that God says His thoughts and ways are as high as the heaven is above the earth, when compared to ours His. (Isa. 55:8-9).  Thus our relationship with God ever remains that of He as God and we as His children.  We never grow up in comparison to Him.  In fact, Jesus plainly explains that only those who become as children
will inherit God’s kingdom.  (Matt. 18:3)

We can take great comfort in this.  God knows. God sees.  He is always watching.  He understands the challenges before us – the dangers and obstacles.  He is ever vigilant
watching over us and guiding us through it all – even when we don’t notice.  We will never outgrow our need for Him and we can rest in His result. Selah (pause & calmly think of that…)

PROV 3:5-6 (NIV)  Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight.
