Put Down Your Fear. I AM!

Lord, there are hard things. You know. Speak. I am listening. Help me to be in this space. As Guide and Love I know You will show me the way forward. One true God, Savior and Lord all trust is in You. Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening. In Jesus' name, Amen

This is what is called a prophetic word.  I hear it as if the words are being spoken into my mind and write it down as I “hear” it.  Please always pray before and as you read.  By definition I am human and imperfect.  In addition, when the Holy Spirit “downloads” a word, it will either resonate with you or it will not and that’s okay.  No one prophetic word is for every person.  And this is my prayer for you: ”LORD, please lead each reader perfectly and cause them to receive and remember, only that which is from You for them.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.” ~ Elizabeth

Put it down. Put it down. Put it down. You picked it up again and it is too heavy for you. I am all that you want or need. I see. I know. I have not forgotten. I have not been overwhelmed or overcome. I am still here and have not changed. I know. I am not finished. I have not left. I am still about my business. Look to Me.

Where you are there is danger. You have correctly discerned. This can destroy you or through it I can make you stronger in Me (for Me and by Me). The choice is yours. I desire to make you stronger for with Me you will overcome. Will you let Me?

I know what you are facing is difficult. I am well aware you have neither been this way before nor is it a way you would have chosen for yourself. Even though that which you face seems so much larger than any obstacle or enemy faced in the past—even though you know it is not within your control—it is I who am with you always even to the end of the age. I have not left. My arm and reign remain supreme. NOTHING changes that. Nothing—not even that which causes such fear in you now.

This fear is not from Me. No fear is from Me. I am the One to be feared—the only One. This is not because I will harm you, but because I am Supreme, above all, the Most High! Everything else is less. Everything. I am Creator. I am the only Creator. I laugh at every other entity which seeks to exalt its own power for it shall not be. I am to be revered in My place. Fear of anything else is not from Me and cripples. Do not allow it to have this power. Look to Me and rely on Me instead. Trust ME. There is no other one trustworthy and I am faithful.

You realize you are not in control. You know that which comes against you is greater than you are. Indeed! It is! Yet I AM Greatest! This is not large to Me. It is as nothing. I already know what I will do with it. More importantly, I already know what I will do through it. Nothing thwarts My purposes. Nothing. Never. Ever. Nothing. I AM GOD. Remember this. Engrave it on your mind and heart. Look to Me and don’t look away and I Myself will do the engraving and you will be able to stand strong.

Even though suddenly this is before you, it is not new to Me. I have known. I have the plan and I remain the same. I AM Emmanuel, God With Us, so God with you now and even now. I have not changed. My power continues to be almighty. I remain Conqueror. I am ever Victor. Even in this. Especially through this.

You cannot see the way forward, but I can. Do the same as I have always asked of You: look to Me, worship, listen and obey with complete abandon. You are right. This is out of Your control, but it is not out of Mine. You have never been in control. Any sense of control which you thought you had was really illusion. I have always been in control. Surely the adversary acts as if he can, but in the end I win for My people, always and eternally because of My zeal for every person, because of My love.

Set down your need to know and understand. This is critical if you are to receive My peace in this place. There will be much in this season which you will not know in advance. I am the One Who knows. That is all that is required. Look to Me and let go of your fear. You fear because you know you have no power in this. You can make nothing happen. Your fear is unhelpful for you and it is an obstacle between you and Me and all I want to do for you and those you love.

Where have I ever told you to fear what you see in the world? Where have I told you the enemy is worthy of being feared? You are giving glory and credit to him which belongs only to Me. I am the One to be feared with a reverential awe and awareness for nothing is greater! I am the One with all power. I am the One who can change all things in a moment in ways you cannot anticipate. I am the One who knows what I am about and what I will accomplish through this. Yes, the enemy is evil and has reared his head. And I am greater or I am not God. Do you believe in Me? Then put down your fear of the unknown which lies before you. The enemy is indeed crouching near, lying in wait and whispering lies that he is more powerful and will win. Why do you listen? Stop listening. Do you believe in Me? Then believe in My power and My promises. Put down your fear of what you cannot control. I AM. Lift your eyes to Me and remember. Worship Me. Choose to receive My peace where it does not make sense (it is there for you) and I will guide you and those you love through this.

I will be glorified. I am victorious. I will be exalted in the earth. People will see and know I am God because of what I will do through this and through it all and it will be great. Fear Me alone.

PRAYER:  Lord, You are right. This is too heavy. I cannot carry it and am breaking under it. Trying to hold this up before You is even causing me to be sick. I am so thankful that this is not Your will for me. Thank You for inviting me to be Your child where I can simply sit at Your feet and play until You tell me what to do next. Thank You that I don’t have to figure this out, but only have to trust You and Your sovereignty over all things. The growing awareness of Your dominion helps me to receive Your peace. How thankful I am for your kingdom. I choose to seek Your kingdom and Your righteousness understanding that when I do, I need fear for nothing else for there You are with me and those I love even to the end of the age. It doesn’t matter how the adversary rears his ugly head or the threats or whispers of lies made. You are the only One with Supreme power, ever-Victor, Savior and Lord. You are the only One whose plans are not thwarted and can see the best and the good and the right not just for the moment but from here to eternity. How I love You! Thank You for this freedom which I have in You. You are my hope. You are my shield. You are my Mighty Warrior. You are just. Your Way is Supreme. You are love. I will take up my rest in You again today. You beckon me and I am thankful. I am thankful Lord. I am thankful for this place for You are in it. Thank You, Lord that You ever and forever are. In Jesus’ name, Amen

There is Enough Time For His “Enough”

Holy magnificent God, You reign. Mighty and awesome Your plans are superior to ours and only Your plans bring Your result. Lord God, we no longer want our plans but only Yours. Holy Spirit, we lay down our will. Lead us and guide us. Usher us into Your life, LIFE everlasting and peace. Our trust is in You. Our wholeness is in You. All life is in You. Teach us to hear Your voice. We long to follow. In Jesus' name, Amen

Easy does it. Are you in a rush? Is there more to be done than time to do it? Stop. Pause. Breathe. Listen. Yes, there will always be more to be done than time to do it. Such is life. However, what does our Lord want you to do? Jesus never rushed anywhere. He stayed perfectly in Father’s will only doing what the Father told Him to do. In this way, by setting a side His own will, His life was a perfect reflection of Father. We could see Father in it—in Him!

We will never be the perfect reflection of Father God. But we are to be followers of Jesus, thus setting aside our own will to do the will of God (empowered then by Him for His effect) that others might get a glimpse of Him through us.

And….Jesus never rushed anywhere. He never ran to get there faster. He walked.

Consider when He received word that Jairus’ daughter was dying and chose to accompany Jairus to go to her in order to heal her. In the intense urgency of the moment, Jesus stopped to deal with the woman who had had a problem with bleeding for 12 years. He did not say, “I’ll be back. Wait for me here.”, or “Not today. Try me another time.” He did not dismiss her or only give her a trite greeting. He was present to her in the most formidable, transformative way! While he was present to her word came that it was too late. Jairus’ daughter was already dead. However, Jesus had been in the Lord’s will not to rush and in Father’s will not to make it to Jairus’ daughter seemingly in time. The purpose of the miracles of Jesus was to reveal God the Father and the coming of the already-here, but not-yet-fully-manifested Kingdom of God.   The will of Father was for the greater temporal miracle of raising her from the dead.

Jesus did not get caught up in hectic. He did not run to get there faster or get more done. He simply did what the Father told Him to do and He was only in ministry 3 short years. Yet….according to what Father wanted, Jesus completely finished the work. He came with a global ministry. He never left the Middle East. He never even fully travelled around the Middle East. None of us would dispute that Father’s work was accomplished.

Hmmmm….We are to be followers of Jesus, so what about us? On the streaming, seemingly unending list of to do’s, He knows what you actually need to do in what order because He knows the actual consequences of each and what He wants to accomplish through it. No one else does. There is only One who knows the future and so He knows the present and where your priorities need to be for His glory manifesting in your life.

Dare to listen interiorly for His soft, quiet, gentle voice. Dare to trust and obey, doing the step HE lays before you in this moment, letting the rest go—for now. He may bring it back as a task for later.

Come to rest in His enough. Receive the peace, contentment and unabashed wonder of simply doing that which He lays on your heart as He does so. His plan is perfectly enough.

” For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.”  (John 6:38 NIV)

21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.

A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’

32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”

36 Overhearing[c] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 But they laughed at him.

After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat  (Mark 5:21-43 NIV)

Thoughts on Healing

Lord, You offer us the door from here to eternity. We do not want to cross over a moment before it is Your timing, for we have one another here and You created us to love. And yet, we do not want to lose sight of Your greatest gift--our healing from here to eternity. Lord God, by Your grace help us to keep our eyes on You, help us to stand in the gap for healing for those for whom You have ordained more time here and to gentle walk those whose time has come to Your door where You call to them as You did to St. John: "Come up!" How blessed we are that You love us infinitely and fully, providing for us in every way from here through eternity. We adore You our Savior, Redeemer, Healer and Lord!!! In Jesus' name, Amen

November 1st All Saints Day is celebrated. It causes me to think of all those who like us have been imperfect and yet never gave up persevering to follow our Lord more. It reminds me of heaven and the blessings of eternity which await. It brings to mind those I have loved who are already there and those I know who are preparing to be there soon. And so come thoughts reflecting on our Lord–Jehovah Rapha our Healer and the immense gift of His healing now and in eternity.  God bless you! ~ Elizabeth

There are different types of healing from the same Lord God. All healing, whether people recognize it, is by the power of God flowing into our world through the conduit of the Holy Spirit, enabled by the spilling of His own blood by Jesus as He submitted to the ultimate injustice of the cross.  Sometimes healing is for more time here.  Sometimes it is the ultimate healing, the ultimate rescue from here – for eternity.

Too long have we as Christians continued to fear death when that is the ultimate bondage from which we are freed because of Jesus.  It is why He came.

True, Jesus performed miracles while he walked the earth. Yes, He tells us that we will usher in greater miracles than these. Yet to some extent we have lost sight of the greatest miracle of all–the gift of reinstated relationship with Him, of adoption as His children and entrance even now into His eternal Kingdom.

Eternal.  No more suffering. No more pain. No injustice.  No difficulties. Celebrations. Joy. Ultimate love. Engulfed by it.  In His presence.

This is our inheritance.   This is the ultimate gift of Christ and why He came. All else is indescribably less–hugely, monstrously–to the point it can be dangerous to hang onto here so fiercely as our focus.  Is that our call as followers of the eternal, all-good Lord? Hmmm…

This does  not mean we can’t enjoy here. He made it to enjoy. There is so much beauty.  And these are His gifts to us.

It does not mean we do not have a destiny here. We do.  He does have plans to use us to flow to touch the world His way until the day He calls us home.  We have good work to do here no matter what our circumstances! And, and, and beyond all that we are aware of here, our true destiny is eternal.  It is His ultimate gift. It is the ultimate source of supreme joy.

Yes.  there is grief when someone graduates or goes home to eternity with Him in heaven.  He made us to love. He made us to be with others.  Each of us are individual and none of us are replaceable. This means we will suffer the loss of the ones we love–those who go on ahead of us until we are reunited.  Sorrow is a part of this exile in which we dwell and serve Him until He sovereignly opens the gate to heaven for us and sets us finally free.

To fix our eyes on Jesus and be His effective witnesses–witnesses of the Truth–we need to keep our eyes on what is to come in addition to what is here.  And we need to praise Him for whatever is His perfect will.  Whatever it is, it is all, all, all for His glory.  People will be blessed. They will find their way home. We will be together forever in heaven.  We are on our way.  We are journeying there and He alone is leading.

Healing….we pray for now! We pray for Him to heal us temporally yet in this life. And we pray for the complete, ultimate healing unto LIFE everlasting which each will need when His appointed day has come. (Every person Jesus healed temporally when He walked this earth ultimately died. They are still dead unless they chose Jesus as their Savior, Lord and Way.)

Thus with the same fervency we pray for more life, let us also pray for LIFE eternal.  Let us also look forward with great expectation, anticipation and delight to eternity.   Heaven is our home.  With Him forever is the gift.  It is the ultimate healing that we all await.  Let’s not miss it.

The Power of Choosing Worship

Lord, You are the Light in our Darkness. You are the dawn which illumines our Way. You are the strength by which every mountain in this life is climbed and from this place and every place we choose to adore You. Thank You for who You are. Thank You for Your promises which never fail. Thank You for Your love and that You are our one and only God and Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen

Since the Lord asks us to worship Him—to adore Him now on earth as is happening in heaven—and He promises to respond to mightily in return, perhaps practicing turning worry into worship would help us. What is it which concerns you? What is it that you are fervently praying for?  How could you take this heavy duty prayer request and rephrase it into worship which acknowledges you know the Lord is aware, in control and You trust Him for His result?

For example, for parents–say you are worried about your child.  Yes, He asks us to pray so He welcomes your prayers, “Lord, help.  Help with this child. Help him or her to…..”  AND, we can rephrase this as worship and honor Him as in-charge, all-powerful Lord and Shepherd who sees and goes after every lost sheep as a promise not a “maybe”.  So….how could we rephrase it.  “Lord, thank You for Your sovereignty in all things. Thank You that You love xxxx more than I do. Lord God, how amazing You are.  You are the good Shepherd.  You look after every sheep.  You do not lose even one and I know I can trust You to look after xxxx. How blessed to be able to rest in Your promises because You are faithful. I look with great anticipation to the result You will bring and will worship You and partner with you in prayer until it is done.”

Another example, when we are afraid.  Again, He welcomes our prayers. “Lord, help. Lord, something is not right. Lord, I am afraid this or that is going to happen. Lord, fix it please. Fix it please!  Lord, don’t let this or that happen.  Lord, fix it!”  AND, we can rephrase this into worship, such as: “Lord, You know this is afoot.  You know what could happen. Holy One, You are almighty. It is in You alone I trust. I trust in Your power, Your love and Your sovereignty. I trust in Your promise to use all things for good in light of Your eternal plans for all of us.  Lord God, because You are faithful, I choose (and this is hard) to lay down my will and entrust this situation to You.  You know my heart!!!  Lord God, You will bring the best result.  And in trust and adoration I thank You before I can see it.  Magnificent One, You reign.”

Any and all prayer requests can be rephrased into worshipful declarations. We are strengthened by them because it writes the Truth of who He is on our hearts and we are strengthened by this.  There will be storms in this life and so this helps us stand strong on the Rock of who He is as our unshakeable foundation so that we are not carried away by the wind and waves of life.

Even more importantly, our Lord is given the glory (the credit) and thus the honor He is due for the place He does hold in our lives.  This is not a place He has because we give it to Him (though He is honored through this). It is a place He has period. We choose whether to honor Him in this place or not.

It takes practice.  It begins with being aware of what we are thinking–what is running around as worry or concern in our minds—taking hold of these thoughts and actively putting them up against the truth of Christ.  St. Paul writes about this as taking our thoughts captive to Christ in his second letter to the Corinthians:

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.  (2 Cor. 10:4-6 NIV)

What are we thinking? What does the Lord promise? When we rephrase our thoughts to focus on His promises, our worries become worship.  He is honored and given the credit He is due (which is part of our purpose while we are still living in this world, though  no longer of is) and He responds with a release of His power in His timing always, always, always in ways which exceed our human expectations. He is almighty. His ways are eternal. He does not fail. His word returns victorious to Him.

11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.  (Eph. 1:11-12)

By His magnificent promised response to our worship, we are blessed and the work of His kingdom is furthered in us personally and the world around us. Yes, the power of worship is the power of His promised response.  We can rest in it (and rejoice!)

Prophetic Word: Little One, I See You

Holy, mighty, magnificent One, You reign! You reign over heaven and earth. Today, I choose again to put my trust in You, for You are the One who leads me home. You are all that I have and all that I need. In Jesus' name, Amen

Little one, I see you. I know you and know the places of your pain. Little one, how I long to hold you. I am here even in those moments when you are unsure whether I am real at all.  I never leave your side. I am your Comforter at all times.

There will be a moment–Father knows the time–when the season of suffering will be over. Pain shall cease and you will see Me face to face. Then you will know I am wiping every tear away.  The fullness of My justice will have come.  And the fullness of My love.  All will be complete, redeemed and restored.   That time is not yet, but I am still with you.

Get up and walk. I will show you the way.  One step at a time. Keep going. There is good work for you through this place. It is My work. By My grace, if you will let Me, I will work through you tohave my eternal effect in the lives of others. You do not decide what this is. I do.

Little one, I love you. I am holding you. I am leading you. We will go there together and every step (no matter how hard) when considered  from My eternal perspective will be glorious!

Good Report Not The Best and All Is Well With My Soul

Lord God, how great You are. Your view is so much greater than ours. You are in the small without losing view of the large, the critical, the vital, the eternal. We are so blessed to be able to simply take up our rest in You and in all things let You lead us in the way You have for us to go--despite any hardship or difficulty--for Your glory. For Your glory, Lord, oh yes. Let it all be for Your glory! In Jesus' name Amen

We tend to like it when things in our lives come in neat little packages where the contents and boundaries are clear. This gives us a false sense of assurance so that we think we know where we stand and can anticipate the outcome. We tend to like stability and constancy. We do not tend to like it when things are unclear or unsure because then we feel as if on shifting sand, not knowing if we will be able to remain standing or will lose our balance and fall. And oh how we don’t want to fall. We want to keep standing. We want to keep going and not be knocked down. We want to live.

Yet when we consider this perspective of being most comfortable when we think we know how things are going in light of God’s perspective, we recognize this very human point of view has no credibility. We realize once again that it in the Lord that we have our hope. It is upon His promises alone which we can rely. His promises do have manifestation in our lives now because He is Emmanuel – God with us. Yet in truth it is once we have passed from this life to the LIFE which is to come (through Jesus) that the fullness of all God has for us is realized and we never look back.

Life here does not always come in the nice neat little packages which we prefer. We often do not find ourselves in circumstances of certainty, but uncertainty. Additionally, the reality is that even when we feel comfortable because there is a façade of certainty in our current situation, that which we think is certain is not certain at all. There are no guarantees except that there will be issues and struggles in this life. Eventually there will be physical death for each of us. And if we have chosen to realize and acknowledge that we need the grace and power of God to be with Him forever (because we cannot make this happen ourselves), then through Jesus as our Savior, Lord (Boss, Leader, Master) and Guide, in His perfect timing we will find our way to this forever home for which He made us, where there are no more struggles or tears.

Given the stark reality that nothing is certain, (except eventual death on a date not known to us) what are we to do? The answer is pure sigh of relief. We have the exquisite pleasure of abandoning ourselves to the will of God. For He promises that He loves us with an everlasting love, never leaves us or forsake us, carries us through the hard times which are part and parcel of this life, gives us His strength for the journey (and His joy is our strength) and uses us in all things so that others would know Him more.

We are journeying through. Here is not our permanent home. It is not the fullness of our destiny.

At first this realization can be hard. Often early in our faith life with Him the emphasis of our prayers is on asking the Lord to save us and heal us here in our temporal bodies with our temporal concerns. These are good and right prayers!!! And…eventually these prayers will seem to go unanswered when the moment comes that He has planned to bring each of us home to Him forever when He no longer answers prayers for temporary healing.

Actually, it is not that He has not answered. It is that He is giving the greater answer, the answer of complete, total and eternal healing and the gift of fullness of destiny forever with Him, the angels and all the others who have gone before where evil has no more power and can have no more negative effect.

Thus, though it is uncomfortable until we get used to it, uncertainty is the norm and eventual death is definite. We are not in control. We can never know for certain what will happen next. There are always unlimited factors which could come from a variety of directions which could affect our today as well as our tomorrow.

So what are we to do? Does this mean God has less power than we thought or that He cares for us less than His promises seem to convey? No. It means we have had our focus on that which is lesser and temporary and He is working towards helping us now but He never loses sight of His supreme focus, which is on all things eternal. We are moving through this fallen, hard place toward eternity and He is ensuring this journey never ceases.

Where does this leave us, if we choose to grieve for the stability we thought we needed to live in peace and realize uncertainty is the norm during this life? It leaves us needing to grab hold of Him more and leaning on Him as our unmovable, unshakeable Rock. In Him and His eternal ways with the promise that death is no longer a danger to us is our hope (because He has won the victory over death). In His plan to flow through us as His instruments so that more would know Him and be able to choose Him for eternity we find our purpose. By reliance on Him to get us through this life and usher us into eternity and use all for good along the way no matter what the adversary tries, we receive His peace which surpasses all understanding in all our circumstances now. By letting go of our need for a deceptive sense of control and choosing to be at rest in whatever comes because we know who He is and what He promises we receive His joy and we are swept up into an ocean of contentment and fulfillment no matter what is going on around us.

Remember, to rely on Him does not mean we are expecting He will protect us or those we love from every evil here. Often He will do this in answer to our prayers and simply for love of us, but not always. His eye is on His gift of eternity. He is bringing us through here. He is using us here. And it is temporary. We repeat so we remember: here is not our home. Heaven is where we will dwell forever with Him and all those who have preceded us through death’s door into His promised eternal Life. To rely on Him is to trust Him to accompany us and use all things and let nothing we go through go to waste.

Another fact of this life is grief. We grieve because we love and miss those who have gone ahead of us into His presence. This is normal. He created us to love. Grief means we have loved and cared and this is good! (And hurts beyond what can be put into human words.) We grieve because we wanted Him to answer every prayer here the way we wanted and to usher in the fullness of His eternal kingdom now so that pain, suffering and injustice would fully disappear now, not just in little bits when the seemingly few of us work towards it in seemingly minute ways in His name. We wonder why it can’t be the way we want and think would be best (after all He is all powerful) and grieve when it is not.

Yet in that moment when we finally embrace how His way really is, in it we find that freedom, peace (from Him), joy, contentment and fulfillment we have always sought. This remains with us in good times and bad. It does not make what is hard easy, but it gives it meaning, purpose and we understand it is temporary and we are confident in and clear about the eventual, ultimate good which is to come.

You may wonder why all this rambling writing now, today. Many of you have accompanied me on the cancer journey of the past year and know that there were scans and tests galore this past week, which had the objective of establishing whether or not the cancer was gone. Thyroid cancer is one where it is very possible that via the treatments I have undergone they can say—“cured”. That would be a nice, neat little box, wouldn’t it? Unlike remission where it’s okay for the moment but we know it the cancer may return, cured is done, over and never to return in that form. Nice. Neat. Preferred? Hmmm….in light of God’s perspective discussed above actually that is not necessary.

In fact, a report of “cured” is not quite what I received when my endocrinologist called with the report this afternoon and all I have written is to help you understand why in spite of this all remains extraordinarily well with my soul.

The report was a good report, but it was not the definitive “cured” report. The doctor shared (praise be to God) that the very thorough ultrasound of my neck where the goal was to find and evaluate every lymph node came back clear. It looked great. However, in the whole body scan there was one slight, tiny, faded “perhaps-something” around the center front of the neck. It is not a lump. It has no substance or form. Scans don’t show that, ultrasounds do and the ultrasound showed clear. The scan measures where radioactive iodine was absorbed into the body (as it is always absorbed more by thyroid tissue and thyroid cancer tissue.) Normally any areas which would indicate remaining thyroid tissue or thyroid cancer tissue would glow brightly! In this case there was nothing which lit up that strongly, but there was a little something faded which was oh-so-slightly illuminated. What does this mean? It did not match the ultrasound, so it is probably nothing….or she said it could be something. At present we simply don’t know. Even if it is a remnant of tissue reacting with the radioactive iodine, we don’t know if it is thyroid cancer or just remaining thyroid tissue. What to do? We wait. In three months we go through procedures again and see if there is increased glow or if it is definitely no more….or something else.

Yes, it would have been nice to be able to write “cancer-free” in this blog entry today. But I feel no anxiety at the report. First on a completely practical level, I have been told since the beginning that any remaining cancer following surgery would grow so slowly (because by its nature thyroid cancer is slow growing), that I would likely die of something else before that cancer would ever truly become a threat. On the greater spiritual level, there have never been any guarantees about this life and how long it would be—only the one to come.

Thus, first, thank you for walking with me this far. Next, please do continue to pray for complete temporal physical healing. (I do love my life and working for Him here.) His answers to your prayers have sustained me! However, please pray more that I would hear His will moment- by-moment and be able to keep eyes off self and always have the courage to walk into whatever places He can use me. My greatest desire for a long time simply has been to be used by Him in the way He wants for His eternal purposes to reveal Himself to others the way He knows is best for however long He ordains for me to live this temporary life. Period. This has not changed. We have today. Actually, we have this moment. It is all we have. Pray that I would be a vessel He can consistently use His way no matter what. And I will pray for you as well. There is nothing better than being in the will of the One True God. There is nothing better than having let go of all we thought we wanted and letting Him have His way with us. This is the way of awestruck wonder, where the supernatural supreme God shows up in our every-day. It is the way we become authentic followers of Christ. It is the way of His kingdom come, His will be done on earth as in heaven….for His glory, for His glory alone. Can I get an, “amen”?!

True Treasures From Trusting God

Oh, Lord God, Your sovereignty causes us to drop to our knees in awe. How inscrutable Your ways. Your superiority is supreme! There is no one and nothing greater than You. Majestic, all-holy One, thank You for Your good plans. Thank You for how evil is and remains conquered. We are so grateful. We cannot find our own way. There is no true purpose beyond Yours. Take our lives once again and have Your beautiful way through all circumstances with us. How we desire each moment of our lives to have Your eternal effect. We love You. We are lost without You and so, dear Shepherd, lead us and we will follow wherever You go. We are Yours. In Jesus' name, Amen

This morning was an ultrasound to check on the status of lymph nodes in my neck 6 month post-radioactive iodine treatment and 8 ½ months post thyroid cancer surgery. It is the first of a number of appointments to check whether the surgery plus treatment have indeed addressed last year’s thyroid cancer in a way they can state I am “cancer-free” and healed.

I was not stressed going to the scan. Yet I did not look forward to it. More than anything it was one more reminder of the brevity of life, which doesn’t cause me to fear death but sometimes makes me sad because I enjoy working for our Lord here so much and sometimes cannot quite fathom heaven. (Sometimes I have to apologize to our Lord. Do I love Him more or the work He gives me to do?! Oh, Lord, help it to be all simply for love of You!)

No question, this calm in the face of tests which have the possibility of bringing unwelcome news was due solely to my faith in God. Though He can heal every disease, the calm I experienced was not because I was sure He would miraculously heal me of everything which came my way. Certainly, He can and does miraculously heal. However, eventually every one of us will face physical death. Even those Jesus healed (about whom we read over and over again in Scripture) eventually died physically. Our bodies are not made for eternity. They will wear out. It is simply a matter of how and when.

This is not a negative mindset. I don’t dwell on it. It does not depress me. It is reality. As a Christian, I know death may be the end of our temporal physical lives, but it is the door from life to the eternal all-good Life with God for which we were created.

Thus though our Lord provides for us and heals us in answer to prayer many, many times, I have no expectation for our Lord to constantly deliver me from illness. He will for as long as it is His will. On the contrary, clearly at some point (it may be earlier or later) we will each die, and there will be suffering along the way. Such is the condition of this life in this world, which will never be heaven.

Jesus is our perfect example. Where the Father wanted miraculous healings to reveal the reality of who He is, these occurred. However, even Jesus died at the hands of evil and in the eyes of worldly wisdom His physical life was abbreviated grossly from that which might have been considered a normal lifespan. Yet through this sacrifice, our Lord ushered in salvation for the world. Unspeakable goodness worked through evil! He will work goodness through us as well.

Rest assured I do not seek early physical death. (One of my grandmothers lived to 100. Lord, may I live till 100 too?) I am blessed here. Indeed I would mourn if evidence showed likelihood my physical life would be over soon. There are people here I love and there is such good, purposeful work to be done for our Lord here in addition to unabashed worship of Him. But I am not afraid.

No, the reason for my calm in the face of tests is that I trust Him, whether I am physically healed or not. I trust His plan and His will, no matter what it is—death to Life, longer life here, sickness, or health—whatever!

This is my mindset lying on the table as the sonogram begins. The technician clicks and clicks again over and over, scanning places which are beyond the scope of the area I had expected. Why is she marking so many areas? Fear tries to begin to creep in. What if she found something? Oh ugh! Really?! My trust is in the Lord, and yet there is still such a mental battle! Really?!

I realize in that moment, that once again I have a choice. I can let myself fall into anxiety or I can receive this as one more reminder God is in control, He alone knows what is to come from today until the day He takes me home. I do know and believe He will use all in my life for eternal good in the lives of others and my own –even cancer—if I will let Him. Jesus went to the cross that we might live FOREVER. If He allows more cancer, then He can use it as a vehicle through which more people He loves can be helped to choose His kingdom. I need to trust Him and be at rest in it.

I don’t believe there is more cancer, but I do in this moment want to be reconciled with the possibility and in His peace no matter what. I do not want to feel anxiety. I do not want to feel fear. These are not constructive to my Lord using me in this place and oh, how I want to be used by Him in all places at all times!

“God, to You alone I give once again my life. Lord, I have given you my life before to do with as You will, but here I am turning it over to You again, and this time I mean it on a deeper level. Where before there has been a part of me which has wanted to ask You not to cause my life to have to go through the dark spaces and places as You use me, this is no longer the case. My life is Yours, Lord. It has never been my own. Lord, use me for whatever days I am here for whatever you want. Put me wherever I can have the greatest God-effect for You. There are many dark places which would not have been my choice, but I lay all those at Your feet and bow to You. Use my remaining life according to Your perfect will and I will glorify Your name forever.”

In the face of authentically offering myself to Him once again, the inkling of fear loses its power and leaves. A blanket of His peace descends upon me there on the table in the sonogram room—a gift from Him in the midst of what is not earthly fun. I am swathed in His peace and even joy. Bliss. True contentment. Purpose. Love. I am blessed there in that place without measure (as He blesses us every place that we let go and let God).

I am in His will. It is right. It is good. The prayer was good. I meant it. I am at such peace in Him, through Him, by Him and for Him.  True riches this side of heaven!

And undoubtedly there will be future moments where I will have to turn myself over to Him yet again. *Sigh* The humility of our humanity. Lord, how great Thou art!
