Growth Happens in the Waiting

Thus where we are impatient and just want to get on with it or where we just want Him to put His pow-er into making what we want happen immediately, in God’s magnificent and true way, waiting is never just waiting…

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. (Ps. 27:14 NIV)

Spring is so wonderful! Blossoms! Flowers! Bright greens in grasses and leaves in those unmistakeable hues which indicate newness! Hope seems to rise up in these new beginnings! And it should because in spring is the hope of fruit to come at harvest. That with which to be fed, but moreso with which God can feed others with Himself. The true Food, which heals us from the inside out and genuinely satisfies and accompanies us, leading us from here to eternity.
But spring is not to be mistaken as harvest. It is the promise of what could be, but is not realized yet. First there must be that spark of life which converts the potential of the blossom into the start of that which could become fruit. There must then be growth and conditions which maximize it.

This is how God works in us at all times and in all seasons. He wants us to benefit from a harvest of His healing as He nurtures and grows His priceless, eternal fruit within our souls. He wants to produce the fruit of His Spirit in us so that His love (the fruit-the evidence and proof of who He is) can flow through us His way to touch others with the reality He is. Tangible, practical acts of love and support. Spiritual encounter when His Spirit rolls through our obedience to Him (often in ways we do not realize) to help hearts know Him more on a yet deeper level.

Thus where we are impatient and just want to get on with it or where we just want Him to put His pow-er into making what we want happen immediately, in God’s magnificent and true way, waiting is never just waiting. Indeed, sometimes waiting is like winter, where storms seem to only destroy and growth is hidden away underneath where it cannot be seen. Sometimes growth is disguised by severe and painful pruning which life in the fallen realm dishes out. Sometimes being made smaller first is what enables that eventual productive harvest. God knows… Sometimes we get so excited about the signs and the start of what God seems to be planning or we believe is promised that we forget blossoms are not the ultimate, but the beginning. To be celebrated with childlike joy and wonder. But we must not stop there.

The world needs fruit. His. That must be grown in us. Usually this happens hidden under leaves close to the branches and of a color that the emerging fruit cannot be easily seen. This is by the Master’s design. The fruit is sour and cannot provide His sustenance as it was meant to if it is mistakenly plucked before His time.

Growth doesn’t just happen. It must be perserved through. This is not necessarily easy. Sometimes growth happens in spite of conditions and circumstances. When we are weak (and we will sometimes be weak) growth is happening because of God, but in spite of ourselves.

Growth must continue through challenges like pests and heavy summer heat. Or too much cool and dampness. Through climates which are less than would be ideal. Always dependent upon care and watering from the Master Gardener. And He is Faithful.

But as long as life remains, growth is always there. It must. No matter our age or period of life, in God’s eyes we are always His children and we remain in a constant stage of becoming. It is His way. Thus it is blessed.
In the waiting, whatever you are waiting for, God is using it to grow you to be more like Him to be His even more fruitful fruit to the world. Whether or not you are aware.

This can be hard. This is bliss!

Lord, have Your way with us!

For Such a Time As This

Until the sun sets on this life and You usher us into the next we are Yours to do with as You will as You did with Your Son Jesus, for You Yourself have put us here for such a time as this… for Your glory. We bow to You. In Jesus name, Amen

a poem by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2012

For such a time as this, our Lord put you in this world

To be where He needs you to be, to have the effect He desires you to have

For such a time as this, He revealed Himself to you

That your joy might be complete and His will fulfilled

For such a time as this, yes, for such a time as this

For such a time as this, His Spirit is in our midst

So that when we seek His face, He is found and His Light shines through us.

For such a time as this, as the moon reflects the sun

He works through us to show His way, not by our power, but by His

When we make the choice to submit and obey, for such a time as this

For such a time as this, He uses our lives to produce the food

Real fruit of His Spirit which is clearly seen and sweet to eat to nurture His harvest yet to come

For such a time as this, we become like Sonflowers as we adore the Son

And within our center He produces a harvest to feed those dying without Him

That before their generation passes away they might know Him & find life, indeed for such a time as this

For such a time as this, we are His harvest to feed the next ones

Through lives which are no longer ours, but His, the love of God reigns and rules

For such a time as this, His Spirit will lead us every step, and the enemy will be conquered (what was meant for evil used by Him for good)

By Him hope will return, joy and peace will flow like a river, and lives will be redeemed

For such a time as this, for such a time as this

Every generation passes away, like a wildflower – just a breath and we are gone.

Therefore the time is now, this moment counts; regardless of where we are He has good purpose,

To be His light where all seems dark, to bring a hint of His fragrance standing as a testimony for His truth, not by our might but by His Spirit

The world needs to know we are not destined for death and despair here but hope, purpose & life in Him

For eternity, yes, but also for such a time as this.

For now we are destined to be, for now we are destined to serve

For now He desires to use us for good though we are far from perfect

Because He loves us from here to eternity and does not treat us as our sins deserve

For now He turns darkness to light before us, lighting His way that we might lead those behind

By His Spirit for His glory for His kingdom come and His will to be done for such a time as this, for such a time as this.

God’s Grace & Power + Our Free Will = Defeat of Evil

You give us the armor and sword to bring victory when we embrace Your way and choose You as Savior, Lord & Guide. There is nothing better than Your Way. All the rest is deceipt. We look to You for Your answers.

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011   www.holyspiritpress.org   www.eaglesnestfoundation.org

God is Sovereign.  He is Supreme.  He is Victor and Conqueror.  He and all those who are with Him win….in the end (and for all eternity.)  However, we must be aware that while “in the temporary tents of our bodies” there is evil all around us.  Evil is anything which is not of God.  For if we are not of God and with God, then whether by default or on purpose we are against Him.

Evil often masquerades and exalts itself as good and right, though it represents a lie because it is contrary to God’s way.  Evil seeks to fool and makes fools of those who come into agreement with it.

Evil is rooted in deceit and exaltation of self, creating its own wisdom and declaring this false wisdom as truth.  Evil is fueled by God’s supernatural adversary who puts his supernatural power behind all things which are not God’s way in an attempt to broaden the influence of his own supernatural spiritual kingdom.  The supernatural nature of evil cannot be seen with our natural eyes, for as we have learned as Christians, our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly places.

God’s supernatural is always more powerful and conquering over that of the adversary.  However, we are not supernatural and therefore need God with us in order to defeat that which comes against us.

Knowing at its root our battles are  supernatural and spiritual, many of us have worshipped God as He has asked.  We know worship causes Him to release His power into our circumstances.  We have prayed without ceasing.  We know prayer invites release of His power with His answer.  Yet though we have sought to assault evil spiritually from our victorious position in Christ as Redeemer, still in our communities and homes evil can lurk seemingly unscathed.

This is because evil is not conquered by worship and prayer alone.  Worship causes us to enter into the Dwelling Place of God where we are in Him as He is in us.  Worship adores God, acknowledging His rightful place as Leader over our lives and welcomes Him, inviting His presence and strategy.  Prayer partners with God for His perfect purposes and will to be realized and the Holy Spirit responds to prayer by moving situations and people into perfect position.  But the deliverance from evil does not just happen, though God has set everything in place to make it available.  Deliverance must be reached for and grabbed.  Like a gift set before us, it must be opened and received to have its intended effect on the recipient.

Thus the final element to the conquering of evil in our society, and the deliverance (the setting free) of individuals and whole areas from it, is the free will of each individual involved.

Those who are already free from a specific evil in our society, need to stand against it – not in condemnation, criticism and hate, but in firmness and unwavering conviction which finds its root in love of God and wanting His Way.  We worship, pray and act and as the Holy Spirit touches those around us in response they each receive opportunity to choose God and His Way as well.  God responds to the worship and intercession of those who love Him and are already free by charging the atmosphere with the power of His Spirit and putting the people in place to offer opportunity for those who are not yet free of evil’s grip to grab the hand of another and find their way out.

Though the foundation of worship and intercession preceding action is vital because it places us under God’s covering and gives us His strategy (and His supreme power to execute it), the people surrounded and effected by the evil individually must choose God’s path, which Jesus illuminates as He shines His light through us in their dark places.  Unless they so choose, the Conqueror, Jesus Christ, will not assert His conquering, healing, restorative power into their lives, but will respect their free will.  Thus in the end, God does not let evil win.  The individual does.  Every individual has a free will choice which must be exercised to decide whether or not to allow that which is evil to continue to exist in his or her life.

For each person who chooses God, if he or she then will press into learn to hear His Spirit’s voice, He will guide the individual in all things, including leading him or her out of any remaining bondage and into the freedom He always intended for that individual.  In so doing, evil in whole regions will be defeated, one consecrated worshipping, praying, Christ-following life at a time.

EPHESIANS 6:10-18 (Amplified)

10In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides].

11Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.

12For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.

13Therefore put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place].

14Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God,

15And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the [a]firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness [b]produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace.

16Lift up over all the [covering] shield of [c]saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one].

17And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit [d]wields, which is the Word of God.

18Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God’s consecrated people).

Selah! [Pause, and calmly think of that!]

You are Beloved, Chosen By GOD & Beautiful!

Your Way is higher, better and Truth! Halle Yahweh (Praise You, God!)

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011  www.holyspiritpress.org    www.eaglesnestfoundation.org

In February 2010 I was asked to lead a time of contemplation or meditation at our church women’s retreat.  When I asked the Lord, what He wanted for the women, He highlighted the mirror which would be in each participant’s gift bag and reminded me that how most women see themselves is not the way God desires.  No matter how beautiful others see them, I cannot think of a woman who believes she is beautiful.

Of course, God’s way is different.  He sees our beauty from the inside out.  He knows the body we live in is a mere temporary tent for our physical lifetimes.  And He knows He made us beautiful and in His image.  He loves us infinitely as we are and chooses us as His adopted children, beloved bride through whom He works to accomplish His eternal purposes on the earth.

The negative barrage on our minds can be overwhelming at times.  It is good to take moments daily to pause to see ourselves from God’s perspective so we can stop spending so much time beating up on ourselves and realize who we are in Him and to Him.  Below are statements based on Scripture (they are NOT direct quotes from a particular translation).  These are the Truth of who we are to God.  These are God’s promises.  It is a partial list, please go through your own Bible to find more.

May be always be reminded by His Spirit to see ourselves through His eyes, embrace His love and spread it to others.  May you be refreshed and encouraged.

AND MEN, this is for you, too.  If the word “beautiful” isn’t an appealing adjective with which to describe yourself, insert “handsome” or even “successful” and get a better picture of how the Father sees you!

May we be set emotionally free by the Truth of how God sees us. (And His opinion is the only one, which matters.)

~Elizabeth

You are beloved and chosen by God; He made you beautiful and in His image.

God created you in His own image.  In the image of God He created you.  (from Gen. 1:27)

The Spirit of God made you, the breath of the Almighty give you life.  (from Job 33:4)

He made you a little lower than the angels and crowned you with glory and honor.  (from Ps. 8:5)

You are beloved and chosen by God; He made you beautiful and in His image.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that you who believe in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.  (from John 3:16)

To you who believe in His name, He gave the right to become children of God – born not of natural descent nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. (from John 1:13)

He chose you in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight.  In love He predestined you to be adopted as His daughters through Jesus Christ in accordance with His pleasure and will. (from Eph. 1:4)

He says,  “I have loved you with an everlasting love. I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” (from Jer. 31:3)

You are beloved and chosen by God; He made you beautiful and in His image.

You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness and into His wonderful life.  Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not receive mercy, but now you have received mercy. (from 1 Peter 2:9-10)

He says, “I am the Bread of Life.” (from John 6:48)

You are beloved and chosen by God; He made you beautiful and in His image.

For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you.  You will seek and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (from Jer. 29:11-13)

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for you.  His love endures forever; He will not abandon the works of His hands. (from Ps. 138:8)

For God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness” makes His light to shine in your heart to give you the light of the knowledge of God in the face of Christ. (from 2 Cor. 4:6)

But you have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God not from you.  (from 2 Cor. 4:7)

He says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness….For when you are weak, then you are strong.”  (from 2 Cor. 12:9)

You are beloved and chosen by God; He made you beautiful and in His image.

For you are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  (from Eph. 2:10)

And you know all things in God work for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.  (from Rom. 8:28)

Therefore there is now no condemnation for you who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spriti of life set you free from the law of sin and death.  (from Rom. 8:1)

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.  (from Ps. 37:4)

You are beloved and chosen by God; He made you beautiful and in His image.

(Now read what follows below out loud , know it is for YOU and trust God that what He has written in His Book is True)

PS  139

1O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.

2You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.

3You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

4Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.

5You hem me in–behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.

6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

7Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

8If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

9If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,

10even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

11If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,”

12even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.

13For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

15My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.  When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

16your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

17How precious tome are your thoughts, O God!  How vast is the sum of them!

18Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you

Eph 2

10For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

 PS. 63

3Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.

4I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.

5My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

I am beloved and chosen by God.  He made me in His image and beautiful…

Spiritual Armor #2 ~ GOD is Our Fortress

We have nothing to fear when You are God. Infinitely loved, forgiven, safe in Your Refuge. ALL PRAISE BE TO, YOU, GOD!

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011                                              www.holyspiritpress.org    www.eaglesnestfoundation.org

This is the second in a series of posts, which will periodically present verses from the Word of God which can be wielded effectively as a sword to cut off the negative lies which can and will come against our minds from the adversary and his henchmen.  Remember:

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. (Eph. 6:10-13 NIV)

The Word of God is the Sword of  God’s armor and as such, the singular offensive weapon with which we can defeat the enemy which comes against our mind with lies, accusations, feelings of guilt, unworthiness, fear, etc.

Today with the following Scripture passage we remind ourselves of some of God’s promises.  None of these mean we will never die, because for each of us He has ordained a day when He will call us out of our physical body to bring us home to Him. But these are His promises for as long as He ordains us to be here.

PSALM 46 (NIV)

1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.                       2 Therefore we will not  fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.  5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break fo day.  6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

7 The LORD almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

8 Come and see what the LORD has done, the desolations He has brought on the earth.  9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth.  He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.  10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Selah!  (Pause and calmly think of that!)

Spiritual Ammo #1 ~ The Sword

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011

We all are subject to interior battles, which are emotional and spiritual in nature.  Sometimes they are influenced by physical factors which must be addressed as well.  Where there is a spiritual root, we need to be aware that the power of the negativity we face is supernatural and beyond what we can beat on our own (because we are natural, not supernatural).  But we have a secret weapon, which when wielded always brings eventual victory: The Word of God.  And we have the Almighty One True God always by our side.  Truly the enemy has no power and can only threaten, lie and accuse, but not conquer when we invite God to be with us as LORD.

But the focus on this post is on the secret weapon which God has made always available to us, because He is aware of all battles we face.  In the selection of verses which follow, God describes the enemy we face and how He equips us for victory.  This is the first in a series of posts, which will periodically present verses from the Word of God which can be wielded effectively as a sword to cut off the negative lies which can and will come against our minds from the adversary and his henchmen.  Today with the following Scripture passage we lay the foundation of why we need to constantly refresh our minds with these verses and come to know them so well that they are so-to-speak, as if engraved on our palms and written on our hearts.

ARMOR OF GOD –   “10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”  EPHESIANS 6:10-18

Either God as described in the Bible is real or He is not.  If we believe He is real (which is a pre-requisite to faith), then He is Truth because this is how He describes Himself to be.  If God is not Truth (as He describes), then He is a liar and nothing about Him can be trusted.  Since our faith requires us to believe He is who He says, then He is Truth and therefore we can fully rely on what He says.

God is also unchanging.  He does not grow and mature as we do.  He is. (I AM!)  He has always been and will always be the same.  Therefore how He was in the Bible is how we can expect Him to be. What He promised then is His promise to us now.  We can count on it.

In Eph 6:17 (above) God describes the Word of God as the SWORD of the Spirit of God.  Take a look at the rest of the wonderful armor described in these verses with which He equips us to stand firm against the enemy’s schemes.  The Word of God is the ONLY offensive weapon in the armor.  All the rest help protect us, but the Word of God pushes back the enemy and defeats.  Remember, even Jesus used the Word of God to defeat the enemies mental schemes.  During His 40 days in the desert following His baptism and preceding His public ministry, the devil came to Jesus and misquoted/misrepresented the true meaning of the Word of God.  As he is expert at doing, the adversary just tweeked and twisted the meaning a little, but that little bit changed everything!  But because Jesus KNEW the Word of God (as a good Jewish boy, He had been schooled in it and as the Son of God, He WAS the Word made flesh), He was able to recognize the enemy’s schemes and fight back, defeating him in that battle.

He invites us to do the same.  Moving forward, watch for Spiritual Ammo posts.  These will be select powerful passages for you to consider using when you need to wield His sword!  These are not the ONLY powerful passages of Scripture. Dig in and find your own favorites.  The Word of God is of infinite depth!  You will never be done finding new treasures within it!

Remember:   3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.  (2 Cor. 10:3-5 NIV)

Selah! (Pause & calmly think of that!)  END
