Prophetic Word: Steward It As I Lead

Lord God, all that we are and all that we have is Yours. We know You alone are God and that You have good plans for us. We ask for You to guide us by Your Holy Spirit. We are listening and as Your beloved children, only want Your will. Our trust is in You and we look with excited expectancy for how You will work for good through us for Your glory in ways beyond anything we could imagine when we choose to trust, listen an obey. Indeed we are Yours. In Jesus' name, Amen

This is what is called a prophetic word.  I hear it as if the words are being spoken into my mind and write it down as I “hear” it.  Please always pray before and as you read.  By definition I am human and imperfect.  In addition, when the Holy Spirit “downloads” a word, it will either resonate with you or it will not and that’s okay.  No one prophetic word is for every person.  And this is my prayer for you: ”LORD, please lead each reader perfectly and cause them to receive and remember, only that which is from You for them.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.” ~ Elizabeth

Steward what I have given you. It was never yours. It is Mine and I alone know what it is for—how I want to use it. I alone see needs. I meet them. I meet them through you

My way is wondrous. My way is great. My way is just. My way is right.

Miracles are worked by Me. My miracles are worked through you.

I made My sacrifice. Follow Me and make yours.

I am your Provider. I alone know what “enough” is. I supply it. I will supply it.

On this earth, in this life, times of famine and times of abundance are. Help each other through it. I provide for one and nudge you to help the other. Then it is your turn and I will call on them to help you in your hour of need.

You focus too much on money as the key to My provision. I provide in an unlimited myriad of other ways, too. Money is not the way to an abundant life. Fullness, contentment and satisfaction are found only in ways that go beyond what money can provide. Money is merely a tool, which is a part of My complete provision. It will never be more in providing the fullness of blessing I have for you. Money is temporary and can help to meet physical needs in the now. It will never meet the deep inner needs which are at your core. Only I can. Money is not the way.

I know at times it is hard for you. I know when you are hungry and worry for shelter. How difficult it can be to trust in the greater, forever-lasting, greater gifts I have for you. Look to Me. Sometimes I have instruction to help you out of the hard place where you find yourself. Sometimes these will not seem to make sense. I exhort you—listen to Me!

And to all of you, I say and keep on saying, open your hands!!! How can I take care of others My way when you are so tight-fisted with what I have provided and refuse to open your hands. Open them and let what I have enabled and provided to flow through you to the world the way I ordain.

This means you must listen. You must choose to believe I will speak to you and direct you as I did My Son, Jesus. It is why I sent My Spirit.

The needs of this world—this place which is not heaven and so much less than I have for you—are massive. You cannot meet all of them.   You cannot and this is not my plan for you. I alone am God. It is through Me alone all needs are met perfectly. My plan. No other.

You do not want to listen because you do not think you want My will. You think there may be a cost and there may be.

If you say you are My disciple, what does that meant to you? A disciple seeks to be trained by the Master—to follow in His footsteps. A follower is committed to walk and live in the way of the One who leads. Am I your leader? You call Me, “Lord”.

Do not call me, “Lord” unless you intend to actively try to follow Me. Do you not know and remember My joy is your strength? Do you not believe and remember, I have plans for you—plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. How do you expect to enjoy these—to enjoy My blessings—if you are not following in the way I am leading? Do you create your own blessings? Do you have any power to do anything without Me? If I decide, can you stop it from coming to pass? Do you decide when the seasons change or when the rain falls? Can you stop death from coming when it is My time? Why do you still think anything is yours? It is Mine and I give it to you to bless you and through you I desire to bless others My perfect way in My perfect order in My perfect timing. Open your hands. Open your mind and seek to hear Me.

Steward all that you are and all that you have as I lead.

It is My Spring: Seek Me, Listen to Me & Follow Where I Lead

Lord, You are! You are the Son - the perfect, brilliant Light which shines in the darkness. You use us to be Your reflection as the moon reflects the sun. Rise in us, oh Lord. Your purposes are glorious and our trust is in You all day long.

PROPHETIC WORD

Sometimes the Holy Spirit “downloads” a word.  Either it will resonate with you or it will not.  No one prophetic word is for each person. But there are some for whom God intended this as an encouragement.  I am human and imperfect.  Pray before you read and as you read. And this is my prayer for you: “LORD, please lead each reader perfectly and cause them to receive and remember, only that which is from You for them.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.” ~ Elizabeth

Look around you.  Spring is coming.  It is almost here.  It is a new season.  I have done it.  I have done it again. This is by My hand, so that no person may boast.

This will be a season like no other. That which I have said I will do, I will do.  But I am calling you deeper. I am calling you higher:  deeper in Me – into My heart, into My purposes, into My rest; and higher up to where I am, where you finally will have more of My overview.

It is time to stop groveling in the dirt.  Look up and see that I have made you a little lower than the angels and when you bow to Me and call Me, Lord, I scoop you up and call You child – My beloved adopted one – and My beloved bride to whom I have always been faithful even when you were not faithful to Me.

Many of you have been looking for the wrong thing.  I know you love Me, but you have not understood.  You have been looking at your life from a lesser human perspective instead of Mine.

You have been looking for money and worldly wealth as the answer to many of the problems you see before you, but money is not the answer.   I AM.    I am the Provider of all you have and will have. I am the enabler.  I alone know what you need, how much and when to accomplish My purposes and faithfully I provide it.

What is it to you if I desire to move you?  Will you not trust Me as I close one door and open another?

At the same time you still must learn that everything you have is not yours, but Mine. Stop deciding on your own how to spend your time, and how to allocate the resources.  I have provided these things to work through you, what I want accomplished!  Yes, you will be blessed by the process, but it is not just about you.

Do you remember why I saved you….why I gave Myself for you before you even knew Me?  It is because of My great, everlasting, infinite and unfathomable love for you.  I love each and every one just as I love you and I will not stop, will not stop, will not stop until every one of them has had the opportunity over and over to choose Me (or not).  My heart is breaking until they turn and find their true destiny in me!  I am their Father!

When you chose Me as your Lord I thought that you would seek My heart so that together we could love them.  You have been distracted by too many things.  You have worried and fretted, allowing your mind to be consumed by that which I already have promised to provide.

Do you believe in Me? Then why don’t you believe in what I have promised?

You do not have to worry about your finances.  I will provide.  It will be enough and in time for what I desire to work through you, where I want you.

You do not have to worry about your healing.  I will heal.  I will heal as it is in My perfect will to use you for My purposes, to shine My light of truth about the eternal nature of life as My ambassador until I bring you home into My intimate heavenly presence for eternity.

Pray. Pray. Pray. Lift it all up to Me.  Partner with Me for My power to be released that My purposes would be accomplished on the earth: that multitudes would find Me and find their true home – their forever home with Me, through Me and in Me.

You are looking for this world to be the perfect place.  It will never be that.  It is your valley of decision. Am I Lord or am I not Lord?

I have treasures for you, but you have not recognized them.  The treasures which I offer you are greater than anything you have ever sought before.  Nothing compares to Me –nothing. You have sought that which has value for an instant, which can provide material things which in the end have no value at all.  I am offering you all that I am, My wisdom – the secrets of My heart.  I offer you these treasures in response for seeking Me.

Dig for Me as you would for gold, rubies and pearls! Search until you find more, more and more of Me.  I am not hiding.  I merely need to be sought and I will open My treasuries of true riches to you!

In exchange for focusing on seeking Me, you do not have to strive.  I even have removed the need to worry.  All you have to do is seek more of Me – more understanding and to hear My voice.  All you have to do is become as a child and take My hand, following as best you can where I lead.  I will take care of everything else.

Yes, there will be work, for I created you for work!  But you are called to rest in Me throughout.   You are called to be at rest in Me, trusting Me as I lead.

This is My gift to you and you do not take it!  Consider the young child asleep in his or her bed. Consider how because of their innocent, blatant, subconscious, all-encompassing trust in their parents, they rest in complete and utter peace. This is My gift to you for every day regardless of your age and you reject it because you worry about what you want.  Do you think what you want is greater than what I will give you? Do you not know that I love you? Do you not know that what I provide will be better than what you could want?

No, you will not always get your way and there will be those you love who suffer. There will be those you love who die.  But you have forgotten why Jesus came!  Death is not the end, but the entry into the fullness of everything I promised.  Yes, you will grieve, for I created you to love and I created you to miss those you love and it will hurt.  I know this hurt.  I gave My Son…  Yet, do not forget My victory over death and the great, great promise of what lies ahead.

Regarding suffering, remember that though suffering will remain a part of this physical existence until I bring each of you home, I can and do use this suffering for great, great good if you will let Me.  I AM JESUS.  I KNOW SUFFERING.  Through suffering wrought by the enemy, the Father and I redeemed the world.  As a result of My suffering and death, the gates of heaven opened for you, I remain on the throne and the Holy Spirit – My Great and Awesome Spirit – was released for you to guide, direct and counsel you.  What the enemy means for evil I use for good for I am Conqueror and Victor always.  I am Almighty and Supreme and all the enemy’s plans are thwarted and turned for My glory.

Choose to rest in Me in this new spring. Choose to pursue Me and My plans for you by listening before you act (and only doing as I lead you to do – nothing else).  Worship and be in My presence at all times where I can address you more clearly as I inhabit your praise and am enthroned by your right placement of Me in your life through worship.

Let Me lead!  I know what I am doing!  Stop worrying about things which I have promised to do and trust Me.  Receive the freedom, peace and joy.  Become My child.  Listen to My Spirit. Dare to walk in the way of eternity – the way of My kingdom – instead of groveling on the ground in despair.

Hope, hope, hope in Me!  I do not disappoint. What I have said I will do I will do.  I link the here of now with the continuum of eternity and My purposes are never thwarted, no matter what it looks like.  Yes, there are many, many tares planted in My beautiful fields of wheat, but I care not.  I will let them grow with the wheat for if they so choose I can transform them to wheat as soon as they turn to Me, repent and ask. But they must choose it and I give them time, for I love them and want none to be lost. May My fields be filled with wheat before the harvest!

Tend to yourself in Me and for Me at all times, ready to love and forgive others by My power for there will be offense and you must work at getting along. Listen to My Spirit. Do what I say. I weave together the lives of all for My victory.  You are not responsible for all of them and their choices.  You are responsible to Me for your response – to do your part as I lead, not as you decide.  Remember to do all things in love – not love as humanity describes it, but sacrificial love as I show you to do.  You cannot love this way without My power and direction.  You cannot.  You cannot.  You cannot.  For it is beyond your power.  But it is Who I AM.

Love and do not judge.  Judgment is Mine!  I know when and how.  I alone know the hearts and what I desire to accomplish.  As much as it depends on you be at peace with one another.  Love your enemies and do good for those who hate you – even those who persecute you – even those who were of your camp, but where now there is a season of misunderstanding, confusion and discontent.  Agony of agonies!  I know this is not easy.  You will not always see the “success” for which you had hoped.  But I am there.  Do it for Me.  Do it for My result.  I am not done.  BOW. LISTEN. OBEY.

Do not make up your own mind. Always seek Mine!  You are not safe in Your own decisions.  I am your refuge when you are in Me and I am in you – when you have chosen to follow and go My way and not your own.  Remain in Me at all costs at all times!

This new spring is to be your blessing and My victory for this generation. I am calling them all near.  I will reveal Myself to those who do not yet know Me.  I desire to use you for this purpose.  It will bring you greater joy than you have ever known, for you were created and birthed into this world for such a time as this.  I have chosen you and put you in place for just such a time.

But you must give up your worry and seeking of the world’s answers to the problems and obstacles you see.  You must make Me your hope for I am your trust.  It will take self-control and repeated effort, but I will take you through it all and build your spiritual muscle so you can stand stronger in My strength and in My will at all times.  And your joy will be complete.

Rest in Me.  Listen to Me. Do as I say. Soak in the Word. Let it be your food – the only True Food, which nourishes you and sustains you.  Revel in the intimacy which results from authentic worship when you abandon yourself to Me – choosing to adore instead of worry, fret or seek your own wisdom.

I am raising up a planting to produce a harvest.   My harvest is to grow My kingdom for My glory.

Spring is coming.  It is here.  I am bringing the shoots of life forth in the darkness.  Soon what I am doing will become visible and seen.  You are a part of this, if you will rest in Me, listen and look up and let Me show you your life and purpose from My perspective and if you will trust that I am truth, cannot lie and will fulfill all My promises.

Seek Me and My kingdom and everything else you need will be provided for you in exactly the right measure.  Seek My way!  I AM!

Christmas is Coming! Before Spending, Pray

We remember the profound, miraculous gift of Your birth.

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011    www.holyspiritpress.org      www.eaglesnestfoundation.org

Christmas is coming.  Before we spend, we need to pray.

In our culture there is a beautiful tradition of giving each other gifts at Christmas as an expression of love and caring.  But too often if not handled correctly, this can put undo financial pressure on households which potentially causes ongoing discord and unrest long after the annual “holy”-day festivities are past.   To stay in the peace God intends for us, we must avoid the cultural landmines of too many commitments and too much spending.  Our focus today is “holy”-day finances.

It is still November, yet already permeating the airwaves, cyberspace and written media is a plethora of messages encouraging you to focus on spending.  Either you will be “merry” if you give the right gifts or you will be “merry” if you finally get what you want.

When did a gift ever bring lasting inner peace and happiness?  It is not possible, because that is not what God ordains as the source of true inner peace and joy – He is.

Now you may say – let’s be practical. I have to give gifts.  It’s expected!

Perhaps it is expected, but this is where our faith should give us strength and courage.  The Bible is clear that we are not to worry about what others think of us, but only about what God thinks.  So before you shop, PRAY!  God knows your financial circumstances.  He knows where you are now, where you’ve been and what’s coming up.  He is the One who enables us to have all that we have.  He is the One to whom everything we have belongs.  We are mere stewards, which means it is our job to put the money He provides to work the way He ordains.  To whom we give what is part of this.  God knows how He wants money spent.  We are obliged to seek His will even in this and not succumb to any social pressure or pressure within families.

Sound hard?  Might be.  On the other hand you might find it quite freeing!  That’s the way God intended it to be.

Cultural pressure is to spend lavishly on others so they know they are loved and yet, no gift should be a prerequisite to love.  If there is a threat you will lose someone’s love or friendship if the gift isn’t “good” enough, then perhaps this friend’s love or friendship was never authentic.  Love can never be measured by how much money is thrown at it.  Love is separate from money.

As Christians we are blessed!  Our Christmas focus is the Gift of Jesus,  not the gifts.  We can stop and pray when the pressure to buy sneaks in and do a double check with God to see what He thinks.  In this way, we can avoid spending more than perhaps we can afford.

So make your list.  Check it twice.  Pray. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you exactly what to do to cause each person you cherish to feel valued – but within your budget.

Selah! [Pause, and calmly think of that!]

Please consider giving the gift of CHRISTMAS WORSHIP this Christmas. Christmas is coming.  A few years ago, the Lord whispered to my heart that He wanted to be worshipped at Christmas and He showed me how many of the songs we sing beautifully tell the story of His birth and why He came, but very few actually worship Him during this festive season.  As a result in December 2009 I was in the studio beginning to record CHRISTMAS WORSHIP, which includes 7 new, original Christmas worship songs, which the Lord had me compose specifically for this project.   It can be purchased at www.holyspiritpress.org or amazon.com  http://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Worship-Elizabeth-Fulgaro/dp/B004D9931G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1320069144&sr=8-2  or  itunes or CDbaby.com  http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/elizabethfulgaro3.  Music clips can be heard at the CD Baby or amazon.com links.  May God receive the honor and worship He is due this Christmas season.

Prophetic Word: The Money Is Mine; Steward It as I Lead

You are above all & in all. You give us the work of our hands. Through You comes all provision. We bow - listening & ready to do Your will. We lay worry down & trust

8The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine, says the Lord of hosts. (Haggai 2:8 Amplified)

It is My money, says the Lord.  All of it.  You act as if it is yours to control, monitor and make decisions about.  But this is not so.  Leave it to Me.  I decide how it will be put to use.  I make sure you will have enough.

I enable the crops to grow and I enable the harvest.   There is none who can have unless I ordain it.  Everything on earth and even in the entire universe is mine.  You have not made the money; I have enabled you to earn it.  I enable you to have a job for the time periods I ordain because I know you need income.  I enable retirement plans to grow – or not.

So much time, yes, so much time is spent attempting to figure out the perfect formula in order to guarantee you will have enough money to take care of your needs until your physical death.  But I AM the only One who really knows.  I AM the only One who knows the date and the hour and the manner of your passing from now into eternity.  I AM the only One who knows how the investments will perform.  I know what disasters are to come, their negative impact and their positive.  I know your needs and how much you will need.

It is all certainty to Me.  I do not deal in probabilities or projections; there is simply certainty because I alone know the beginning, the end and everything in between.  Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you deep and unsearchable things you do not know.

It is a promise!  But do not come to Me seeking prognostication of what the real estate or stock markets will do. Do NOT ask if you can gamble and win! Surely I know.  But you disregard and disrespect Me when you do not come seeking the greater Wisdom, the true gold that I AM and that My Way represents.  I AM the true wealth.  When you place your trust in Me alone and walk out My will, I AM all that you need.  I will not fail you.

In Me all things were created, live, move and have their being.  It is not so for you.  You are not God and yet I love you with an everlasting love and draw you to Myself with never-ending loving kindness.  My Way is infinite and eternal and goes far beyond the use for the money you seek.

Therefore seek no more after money.  Seek after Me and I will make sure you have enough.  It is My role as your Lord.

Surely My way of providing for you frequently will be through work.  Work is not bad.  I created you for good work.  It is the adversary who lies to you and tells you that leisure and fleshly pleasure are what you should seek above all else.  Most men and women will have to work in order to earn enough to pay for the costs of living which they face.  If I didn’t want it to be so, then it wouldn’t be so.

But just as surely, money is merely a tool to facilitate your existence in this foreign land you currently consider home.  It is of no use to you the moment I call you from here back to the greater reality of heaven – Your true eternal home with Me.  Here you are on assignment.  Here is temporary.  With Me is forever.

Therefore do not waste Your time chasing money.  Do the work I have set before you and let Me enable it to bring what you need.  Do the work because it is the work I have provided, not because you think it will earn you the most.  Making the most is not the goal.  It leads to nothing.  Searching for ever more money is like the ongoing scaling of a mountain because it is said the greatest treasure is on the top only once you reach the summit to find a sheer cliff on the other side and no footing upon which to stand (and so defeated you fall).

I AM your Rock.  I AM your security. I AM your purpose.  I AM your Provider.

It is NOT wrong to have money; it is the attitude with which you handle it.  Money is not your answer.  I AM.  You are to be prudent; you are to be diligent; you are to seek My will with every bit of what you have and do it.

Seek My kingdom first and all the that you need in every other regard will be provided.  Trust in Me over your bank account.  You will have enough.  It is a promise.  Only I know what “enough” is.  Only I know where and how you are to allocate each dollar to ensure you have enough.  Listen for My voice.  Walk out My will. Steward every dollar I provide only as I lead and You will be freed from worry to walk in My joy and My peace now and forever.

Never forget.  Everything is mine; only I know its true purpose. I desire to use the world’s assets, which I have created, for My good purposes.  I know what the “good” is.  Seek Me, obey and rejoice.

God’s Glorious Everyday Purpose for Us

In You we have life, purpose, fulfillment, joy, freedom and great inner peace. You are our all in all and everything. Life is all about You!

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011   www.holyspiritpress.org   www.eaglesnestfoundation.org

It is so easy to get caught up in the secular, physical world around us.  And yet, God’s way is so far superior.  Every day He is calling to us, inquiring if we will succumb to the secular viewpoint, or look up and grasp His.  Sometimes it is helpful to pause to be reminded of some of the clear differences between the two.

This world is passing away.  We are passing away.  We are only too aware we will not live forever.

And yet, God has always been and always will be.  He invites us to be His adopted children who live forever.

Our lives here are consumed with survival and extension and preservation of life while in our physical bodies.  We worry about having enough money; we worry about getting sick and never getting well; we worry about eventual death and the eventual death of our loved ones.

Through faith in the saving power of Jesus Christ through His death on the cross, we no longer have to worry about death.  Death is merely a door to living forever with God in His eternal spiritual, heavenly, all-good Kingdom.  Our lives here will end, because God has something greater in mind.  He loves us too much to leave us here infinitely.  Here there is evil as well as good, injustice, pain, illness, suffering, etc.  Here the air is ruled by His adversary.  It will always be harder here than God wants for us for eternity.

God uses life here to give us that beautiful, free-will choice, whether or not we want Him to be our Lord.  Do we want our own will our own way?  Or do we trust God is who He says?  If He is who He says, then He is superior in every regard and His plans for us are much greater and more fulfilling than any we have thought up for ourselves.  God has the power to bring to fulfillment all the ways He desires to use us, if we will seek to hear His voice (which He promises to teach us to hear when we seek it) and endeavor to follow where He leads because we trust Him.  God promises to take everything we experience and use it for ultimate good.

This is precisely because this life is not all there is.  There is infinitely more waiting for us behind death’s door.  In the meantime, once we have acknowledged Him as Savior and are bowing to Him as Lord, we have a job to do!

The world sets before us and invisible ladder of “success” and falsely teaches that if we will climb that ladder at all costs we will find fulfillment and riches at the top.

Yet, God is the true wealth.  All riches that we might accumulate here, do not continue on with us into eternity.  We have no need for worldly weath in eternity.  It’s only purpose is to help sustain us while we are still here living in our bodies.

Therefore accumulating title, position, power and money is pointless. It doesn’t last and it doesn’t lead to inner fulfillment.  This life is not all there is.  God promises to provide “enough” for us until the day He knows will be that of our physical death (when He brings us home).  Only God knows and controls this date.  He has created us for something greater than wealth and renown among humanity, which is fickle and passing away.

He has created us to walk in the footsteps of Jesus and reveal Him to the world, so that all would have the opportunity to embrace Him, His way and enter into the promise of blessed eternal life which He offers all who will bow and seek to follow Him.

That is our purpose.  Nothing else.  To give Him “glory”.  Jesus was the example.  He listened for God’s instruction and only did as the Father would have Him do, trusting the Father would release His power in the right amount at the right time to complete that which He asked of Jesus. And the Father did.

Once Jesus becomes our Savior and Lord, we become adopted children of God, eternal citizens of God’s kingdom and ambassadors for His kingdom for as long as we are physically alive.  All we have to do is worship God because of who He is, listen for His instruction, then walk it out, regardless of apparent personal consequences.  God will use every single thing we go through for eternal good in our lives and/or the lives of those around us.

We don’t have to worry. We don’t have to struggle.  He is with us and His power is there to care for us.  We just have to live each day trusting He is who He says with our spiritual eyes and ears focused on Him.  He will not let us down.  We can rejoice in each day regardless of our position, living standard or circumstances because God has purpose for us where we are which goes far beyond this life. And if it is time for us to move on, then He will lead us.

How exquisite that God would love us so much that He invites us to eternity, but gives us the free will to decide on our own whether we want His way!  How re-assuring that He has all the power and promises to protect us and provide “enough” for us until it’s time for us to go home and jooin Him in eternity. How blessed that in every moment we have divine purpose with eternal consequences because God chooses to reveal Himself through us if we will let Him.

Finding God, then worshipping and serving Him is what life is all about.  Everything else is less and passing away.  This is where true fulfillment, freedom (from the world’s cares), abundant joy and inner peace are to be found.  It is that for which we were created.

Rejoice in the greatness of God, how much He loves us and how much He will use us for eternal good today!

EPH. 1:11-12, 16-23 (Amplified)

11 In Him we also were made [God’s] heritage (portion) and we obtained an inheritance; fir we had been foreordained (chosen and appointed beforehand) in accordance with His purpose, Who works everything in agreement with the counsel and design and appointed to] live for the praise of His glory!

12 So that we who first hope in Christ [who first put our confidence in Him have been destined and appointed to] live for the praise of His glory!

16 I do not cease to give thanks to you, making mention of you in my prayers,

17 [For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that he may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into the mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him,

18 By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones),

19 And [so that you can know and understand] what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as demonstrated in the working of His mighty strength.

20 Which He exerted in Christ when He raised Himm from the dead and seated Him at His [own] right hand in the heavenly [places],

21 Far above all rule and authority and power and dominion and every name that is names [above every title that can be conferred], not only in this age and in this world, but also in the age and the world which are to come.

22 And He has put all things under His feet and has appointed Him the universal and supreme Head of the church [a headship exercised throughout the church], [Ps. 8:6.]

23 Which is His body, the fullness of Him Who fills all in all [for in that body lives the full measure of Him Who makes everything complete, and Who fills everything everywhere with Himself].

Selah! [Pause, and calmly think of that.]

GOD and the Financial Markets

We are like grass or wildflowers which quickly fade, yet You care for us perfectly. Through all seasons our trust is in You!

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011

The ebb and flow of money is in the news and it can be frightening.  The stock market is down and then it is up again.  401(k) plans have lost value (or not).  Gold prices hit record highs.  Bond values are fluctuating. The reports make it sound ominous and with potentially dire consequences and we almost want to run through the streets as Chicken Little did when the acorn fell on his head and he was sure the sky was falling (and the world was ending).

And yet, we are still here and God is still on the throne. In fact, no matter what the value of our investments, God remains God and we remain His beloved.  Life will go on!

We need to remember our purpose.  The moment we become Christians we have a new purpose.  Instead of trying to amass the greatest amount of wealth on earth, or achieve the highest position, or become some type of celebrity for broad visibility, we inherit the Great Commission.

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matt. 28:18-20 NIV)

God wants to use us so that all people would know Him. Not by our power, not by our wisdom, not by our strength, clever words, or good intentions, but by His Spirit at work in and through us as reflected through our lives.  As a good Father to His children, He give us “pictures” of what He means:  we are to be like amabassadors living in the world as if it were a foreign land, while representing His kingdom – living in the world but not of it.  We are to be like lamps which shine forth His Light (for we have no light of our own).  We shine the truth of His way versus where most people think priority should be placed.  As the moon has no light of its own but reflects the sun, we are to reflect the Son.  We were created to reveal His glory – to show the world the difference it makes in our lives when He is Savior and Lord.

God doesn’t promise us no problems, but He promises to walk through it with us and use all for good in light of eternity.  He promises that nothing will be our demise.  Though we may suffer and will eventually die, death is no longer the end for us, but a door into eternity with Him.  He promises He has a plan for our lives which is good and to provide enough to those who love Him to get from here to eternity.

He is God – that is, Superior, Sovereign and above all other beings.  Thus He commands us not to worry so we don’t need to.  This does not mean everything will go our way, but it will go God’s way.  If He is GOD, then He is GOD.  Either He is, or He isn’t.  If He is, then we have nothing to fear.  In all that we will ever face, we can rest in the fact: God foreknew; God has a plan.

It doesn’t matter whether or not we have investemtns.  If we listen for His instructions and seek to obey, we will end up with enough.  It doesn’t matter if our investments fall in value.  If we listen and seek to obey, we will have enough.  It doesn’t matter if things go temporarily (all things in this life are temporary) from bad to worse and we have to move in a way we didn’t think we wanted, because sometimes He allow to be moved from one set of circumstances to another, so He can use us as His Light and ambassador in another place.  (There are people He wants to reach in those places and how will they be able to see the difference He makes if there is no one there who knows Him?)

He never promised an easy path. Consider Jesus – born exposed to the elements, lived part of childhood in exile, rejected by his village, misunderstood, maligned, betrayed, condemned and executed though innocent.  Yet every step of the way, God was using Jesus for mighty, glorious, eternal purposes!  Even the Israelites whom God blessed in the Old Testament with the “Promised Land” still had to hunt, work the fields, and battle against enemies to secure the land.  Theirs was not a life of ease either.

This will remain earth not heaven.  There will be seasons of abundance and seasons of lack. What God does promise is to protect and provide “enough” for those who love and serve Him, for whom He is Savior and Lord, until He calls us home to heaven.  Do we believe it?

So in light of the sovereignty of God, do we choose to be gold-seekers or God-seekers?  Every person in every previous generation who sought financial wealth as their ultimate in life and/or answer to all their problems is dead (no matter how “successful” they were) – unless they bowed to Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord before they died.

God tells us that His Wisdom is the treasure we should seek about all else.  It is the most valuable asset of all!  The Amplified translation of the Bible describes His Wisdom as comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God.  He tells us His way is higher and better.  He tells us not to worry.  He says for us the beginning of His Wisdom is a reverential, worshipful awe and fear of Him.  In other words, our respect for what he can do for us in all circumstances is greater than our fear of what anyone or anything else can do to us.  Freedom from worry comes from fearing (respecting) Him.  Trust in Him is the antidote to fear of what might happen to us.  If He is God, He is worthy of our trust.  If He is not faithful (and thus not to be trusted), then He is not God.

When we let Him be Lord and choose to TRUST, He responds with a huge outpouring of His peace and joy into our inner-most being which remains regardless of circumstances.  We walk worry-free, because we have chosen to trust Him and let Him be God – resting in the fact that He is in control and we are not.  And then the world sees Him in our lives and the Great Commission goes into fulfillment.  “He says, ‘Be still and know I am God, I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth.'” (Ps. 46:10 NIV)

Though we may invest in the financial markets, we do not put our hope there for these will toss and turn (as they always have).  We put our hope and confidence in the One Who can.  Let us seek His direction for each of us individually.  He will answer.  He is faithful.

SELAH [pause, and calmly think of that]!

1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.  (Ps. 46:1-2 NIV)

3 Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed.  4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.  (Ps. 37:3-4 Amplified)

All-Powerful God Has a Plan Even For Our Finances

Lord, You have provided perfectly for every generation. Our trust is in You.

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jer 29:11-13a NIV)

31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.  (Matt. 6:31-34 NIV)

4…and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.  (John 10:4b NIV)

2 “This is what the LORD says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it—the LORD is his name: 3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’  (Jer. 33:2-3)

God promises to speak to us if we will listen.  He promises we can recognize His voice, which means He will teach us the difference between His voice and the other that is in our heads if we seek to learn.

Jesus went to God about everything.  He didn’t do anything that He didn’t see the Father doing.  (John 14)  Jesus is our example.  We are to do the same.  This includes decisions about our finances.

Everything belongs to God.  He enables us to have money as He enabled our ancestors to find game and grow crops so that we are provided for as long as we are on assignment as His ambassadors here during our physical lives.

(Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that money is only a tool he enables us to have for the brief time we will be on earth.  It has no use in eternity!)

It is as if the funds He provides are on loan to us while here.  He charges no interest, but remains the owner, expecting us to put the funds to use in the way He would want.  As with all things, what God provides is not random; He actually has a plan for all of it. Thus, we are mere stewards.  This means the decision for how to spend, save, gift or invest each amount of money is not ours, but God’s.

Before we spend a penny we should consult God.  Lord, how would you like this sum put to use?

Then we must obey, how we believe He is leading us – again, as Jesus did (and His leading will never contradict His Word, or motivate us with guilt, greed, shame, anger, envy, etc. – all those lovely attributes which are not His, though often His promptings may seem illogical when considered according to human wisdom).

The more we obey, the more He will surprise us with what He does with our obedience.  His supernatural will invade our natural.  Others around us will be blessed and He will show Himself as faithful provider, when we give room for His surprises through our obedience to His promptings.

Each time He shows up to save the day, it builds our faith and we are encouraged to step out in obedience again.  Eventually, instead of holding our money with tightly closed fists, afraid to let go because we are afraid we will run out or not have enough, we will delight to hold all He provides with open hands.  We joyfully, in full trust in Him, will let it flow from us to others as He directs, knowing more will flow back to us in return.  Enough.  It will be enough.  It will be enough for all.

Of course, the key is letting His money flow through us where He directs in the amount He nudges us with – not in the way we think is a “good idea”.  God honors our obedience, not our good ideas.  (His are better!)

We need to seek and hear His voice, so we can follow where He is leading!

Selah (pause, and calmly think of that)!   END

GOD’s Cycle of Restoration

Lord, we need You. Only You are God. All belongs to You & is in Your hands. We seek You. Hear from heaven; come & restore our lives & land.

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011      www.holyspiritpress.org     www.eaglesnestfoundation.org

This devotion contains much Scripture at the end.  Please do not  skip it.  READ IT.  Take 5 minutes to sit in a quiet place and let the words go deep.  We are in turbulent times where it can seem as if there is not a solid, safe place to stand.  Yet there is. CHRIST is our Foundation.  HE is the Rock.  When everything is shifting around us, He does not and His promises to us remain constant.

His ways are not our ways.  In times like these it is helpful to take a moment to remind ourselves of His way, so we can discern the answer to our struggles.  He tells us that He gives us His armor for the battles in which we will find ourselves. The only offensive weapon in this protective armor from Him is His Word (the Truth), which is described as  the Sword of the Spirit (to cut through the enemies lies.) ~ Elizabeth

The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it  (Ps. 24:1)

11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity…” (Jer. 29:11-13a)

God is Restorer.  He redeems that which has been lost, heals and breathes life into that which was dead.   From age to age – since the beginning of time – there has been an ongoing cycle of His restoration.  From the casting of Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden because they had rejected God’s authority to the sending of Christ to redeem people back to Him for eternity, over and over again we see that God’s cycle of restoration is ongoing and remains the same.  It works its way out on the scale of from here to eternity with Christ, but it also is evident in the day to day lives of every generation.

We see it clearly in the stories of the Old Testament which show us God’s relationship with the Israelites.  Over and over again God helped the people find their way free from physical, emotional and spiritual captivity.  He gave them a good place to live where they still had to work for their food and fight off enemies, but where the crops grew well and produced abundant harvests, and there were victories in battles because God was with them.

God was near to the people caring for their every need, not because He loved them (His love never changes and is there forever), but because they have chosen Him as Lord.  In other words, by their free will, the people decided to live under His authority, honoring and respecting God’s place in their lives and seeking to live His way.  This is like citizens of any earthly country.  We understand that to live in the land in peace, we must obey the rules of the realm.  If we choose to ignore the laws, then we risk expulsion (exile) into a place where we are on our own.

God loves us enough to honor our choices.   He only wants us with Him, if we choose it.  When we acknowledge Him as Lord (which means “Master”), give Him the respect He is due as Supreme Authority and seek to live in the way He prescribes, He fulfills His promises to protect and provide for us.  He does not look for perfection but at our hearts.  What was our true intent?

When we ignore Him, decide we know best, pursue whatever we want without consulting Him, disavow our need for Him and try to give ourselves the authority which belongs to Him, He distances Himself and leaves us to our own devices (which are insufficient unless accompanied by His power).  Without His blessing on our lives, it becomes harder to make a living and survive.  In the Old Testament the crops would fail and there would be famine.  The fruitful plains would become a wilderness, barren and where people had to scavenge for food instead of harvest and store.  Once conditions got bad enough, the people would recognize their need for God’s power in their lives, humble themselves (understanding they were not in control, but God was) and pray, seeking once again to be under God’s authority.  At this point, God would come and restore them.  And good times would return….

That is, until the people forgot it was God who had enabled all the good that came their way and began to believe they had done it in their own strength.  In other words, once again God would be ignored.  So once again, He would honor their choice and distance Himself.  The people would experience lack and fear in a myriad of ways without Him, recognize their need for God and seek Him as Lord once again.  He would honor their choice, come nearer and their living conditions would improve.  This is the cycle of God’s restoration!  It does not change!

Today fewer of us are farmers.  We operate with cash money and investments.   Thus it is not physical droughts which have as much effect on our well-being as fluctuations in employment, interest rates and stock values.

As much as we try to financial plan our futures, ultimately God is in control.  To the extent we do not honor Him in this position, as individuals and a nation, He will remove His blessing from us just as He did in former times.

Therefore despite all good “human” ideas, the first step to resolution of the problems we face individually and as a nation is to turn to God, repent of pretending we don’t need Him and attempting to live without Him, humble ourselves by acknowledging our deep need for Him and ask Him to restore our land.   He will answer.  This is His promise; He cannot lie. He will come nearer again.  He will restore.  It will not be instant; but it will happen.  Where we find ourselves currently is not “the end”, but at a point where we have the opportunity for a new beginning with Him.  We have a great hope which will be fulfilled when our God is the LORD.

Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

DEUTERONOMY 6  (NIV)

1 These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that youa re crossing the Jordan to possess, 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you  may enjoy long life.  3 Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, promised you.  4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.[a] 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

10 When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you—a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, 11 houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied, 12 be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

13 Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. 14 Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you; 15 for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land. 16 Do not put the LORD your God to the test as you did at Massah. 17 Be sure to keep the commands of the LORD your God and the stipulations and decrees he has given you. 18 Do what is right and good in the LORD’s sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land the LORD promised on oath to your ancestors, 19 thrusting out all your enemies before you, as the LORD said.

20 In the future, when your son asks you, “What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the LORD our God has commanded you?” 21 tell him: “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 22 Before our eyes the LORD sent signs and wonders—great and terrible—on Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household. 23 But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors. 24 The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today. 25 And if we are careful to obey all this law before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness.”

 DEUTERONOMY 8 (NIV)

1  Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land the LORD promised on oath to your ancestors. 2 Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.  3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.  4 Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years.  5 Know then in your heart thatt as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.

6 Observe the commands of the LORD your God, walking in obedience to him and revering him. 7 For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with brooks, streams, and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills; 8 a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey; 9 a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills.

10 When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. 11 Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. 12 Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, 13 and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, 14 then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 15 He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock. 16 He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you. 17 You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” 18 But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

19 If you ever forget the LORD your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. 20 Like the nations the LORD destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the LORD your God.

DEUTERONOMY 4:25-31 (NIV)

25 After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time – if you then become corrupt and make any kind of idol, doing evil in the eyes of the LORD your God and arousing his anger, 26 I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess.  You will not live there long but will certainly be destroyed.  27 The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive among the nations to which the LORD will drive you.  28 There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or her or eat or smell.  29 But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.  30 When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him.  31 For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath.

2 CHRONICLES 7:13-14 (NIV)

“When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

GOD-Powered, GOD-Reliant; at Rest in All Storms

Lord, we trust in You for all things at all times. We are in awe of You; we dance before Your throne.

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011

Many of us have been trained in an incorrect way.  We have been trained to be self-reliant and by self-determination to believe we can cause everything to happen the way we want.  Yet as followers of Jesus Christ, we know God is the One with the plan for our lives, and the power and perfect way to accomplish it.  When did we slip into the deception that on our own we have the power to cause anything to happen? When did we become God?

Working with God is a partnership for us as it was for Jesus.  Jesus listened; the Father gave Him instructions; then Jesus did as the Father said.  We are “followers” of Jesus.  Jesus was the example.  Therefore, this is how we are to work with God as well.

But to be Jesus-followers (who follow God the Father’s instructions as imparted to us by the Holy Spirit instead of being self-driven) changes how we are to be.  Where we were self-reliant, we understand ultimately God is in control, therefore we are God-dependent, trust in His provision and listen for His instruction.  We realize that as God His plan for our lives must be better than our own and so we seek it with all our heart.  Instead of believing we can make things happen by our own strength and self-determination, we realize it is God’s power at work in us and through us that enables all things.  If God is against that which we want to accomplish or the way (or timing) with which we attempt to accomplish it, He can and will stop progress.  Without His enabling power accompanying our efforts, we can achieve nothing – no matter how hard we try!

Faith in Him causes us to trust Him and that He will come through for us in the perfect way in His perfect timing, no matter what we see going on in the world around us.  Thus challenges, obstacles, actual problems and looming potential issues become as nothing to us.  Worry melts into praise in joyful anticipation, for we know Who we serve.  Yes, we understand the difficulties with which life presents us.  We know there will be struggles, suffering and eventual death, but we can be encouraged by the temporary nature of our bodies and our lives for we are bound for eternity.  We know who is at work in and around us and believe God will fulfill His promise to use all for good and not for evil in our lives and the lives of those around us.

In Psalm 46:1-2 we read: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea…” Powerful imagery for such a time as this when the news makes it seem as if the world is falling apart in every regard.  Picture for a moment the earth giving way.  Consider the mountains falling into the heart of the sea – not the edge of the sea, but into the middle of it.  In order for mountains to fall into the heart of the sea would require a natural disaster of epic proportions!  And yet, even then He calls us not to fear.

How mighty is our God.  How great His power and way.  Thus our focus in all things at all times is to be as in Prov. 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.”

How awesome our God!  How exquisite His promises to care for us!  How inscrutable His Way!  How blessed we do not have to fear no matter what the news says, but can trust in Him.

Selah (pause, and calmly think of that)!

PSALM 46 (NIV)

1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.

5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.

6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

8 Come and see what the LORD has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth.

9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth.  He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.

10 He says, “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Tending Kingdom Financial Crops

God, Your ways are higher than ours; Your Wisdom more precious than gold. We seek You!

Note: Often sections of Scripture are included at the conclusion of these blog posts.  Please do not skip them!  Even when time seems short or it happens to be passages you already know, please take the time to read these passages.  God’s Word contains His Truth.  Because He is so much greater than we are, our comprehension of His Truth often comes in layers.  In other words, each time we read the same passage, if we ask the Holy Spirit, frequently He will take us to a new depth of understanding and application.  God is worth our time.  Sometimes what He shows you will be what He knows you need to get through that day. ~ Elizabeth

PRAYER:  Lord, help us to trust in You enough to quiet our hearts, receive Your Word and let you speak to us through it.  We are waiting and expectant of Your message!  In Jesus’ name, Amen

Like farmers, what we sow, we shall reap.  The analogy of the seed and harvest can be applied in many productive ways.  In this instance, the seeds and crops considered are the fruit of our financial choices.

To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.  (Deut. 10:14 NIV)

Everything we have actually belongs to God.  Its just here for us to care for and use until we enter into eternity.  In the planting fields of life, He is the Master Gardener.  Our job (and responsibility) merely is to steward what He provides.  Therefore, let us consider what types of crops are we tending and what harvest can be expected?

Unlike a farmer whose harvest is determined by the type of seeds, plants and bushes at his or her disposal, our “seeds” (our money) has the potential to produce a variety of different crops and harvest results, dependent upon how we choose to steward them.  For instance, though a farmer who owns a plum tree orchard can only expect to harvest plums, money can be planted to provide for a current need, produce a crop in anticipation of a future need or be invested into God’s kingdom where its effect is forever.

Each of these uses has its place!  Clearly, though God tells us to support the needy, He also states we don’t help if in supporting others we come to the place where we cannot support ourselves.

But often, we live here as if this life were all there is and forget that once we become believers in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, we are offered the gift of looking at our lives differently.  Life is no longer about getting as much money as we can so we can have more stuff.  We understand that everything we acquire here is passing away.  We realize that the special treats we buy ourselves have no lasting consequence (except perhaps an emptier wallet or expanding waistline).  And the possessions we acquire are but for a moment.  They cannot be taken where we are going and certainly can’t be sent ahead.  God alone is furnishing the mansion He is preparing for each of those who love Him in the life to come.

Consider each bit of money available to spend as a seed to be planted.  The manner in which we choose to employ it will determine the crop it produces and how God can use it.

The money we invest in providing for current needs sprouts, produces a one-time harvest which is consumed immediately, then the crop withers never to grow or produce again.  Money spent on current needs (or wants) does not leave behind any seeds to plant to produce the next crop which will be needed to support upcoming needs because it already was spent.  The effect of this crop we have planted and tended was but for a moment.

Money invested in what we may need for the future can grow and grow, but the crop it produces may never be harvested (or only harvested in part.)  God alone knows when He is calling us home and how much we need to set aside in order to have sufficient resources to supply our needs until that time.  (Anything leftover often goes to waste.)  Once again, as the crop is harvested, its application and effect are brief.  The crop we plant and tend for the future provides for a momentary need or want and then is spent.  However, this crop is slightly different in that it is possible for it to produce multiple harvests which meets current needs year after year (if we live on the income produced by our investments, instead of on the savings and investments themselves).  Regardless, the effect of the harvest from these crops we have chosen to plant and tend with our money (“seeds”) often does not go beyond ourselves or this lifetime.

There is another option.  When we choose to plant the dollars He puts at our disposal into efforts, projects and organizations which supply those around them with the love of God and the spreading of the fragrance and revelation of His Son, Jesus, the harvest from these crops has an effect which is never ending.  The crop grown from choosing to employ our dollars as this type of seed has an eternal effect.  Consider getting to heaven and seeing all the people who are there because they met Christ face-to-face through work we helped to fund.

The decision how much money we are to plant and then tend to produce a crop in each of these areas – whether for current, future or eternal use) is not really ours.  Each of us must consult God.  There are so many needs which He would like to address by having the money He has provided flow through us.  The potential good uses for money are seemingly infinite!  Only God knows whose money is to be used to tend to which need.  If we will seek to hear from Him (listening!), God will place His strategy for every financial “seed” He has provided on our hearts with His peace, our joy will be great and His harvest from what we plant eternal.

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all his angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.  32 All the nations will be gather before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.  33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.  34 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.  35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave m something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’   37 Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in or needing clothes and clothe you?  39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go visit you?’   40 The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’  41 Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’  44 They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison and did not help you?’  45 He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ 46 Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” (Matt. 25:31-46 NIV)

6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.  7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.  8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having what you need, you will abound in every good work.  9 As it is written (Ps. 112:9): “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”  10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.  11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and though us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.  12 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is  also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.  13 Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generousity in sharing with them and with everyone else.  (2 Cor. 9:6-13 NIV)

Selah!  (Pause and calmly think of that!)
