Oct 22 to Jan 6 reflections from an upcoming book for tending hurting hearts at Christmas
If you have been following these devotions, likely you are not the same as when this holy-day season began. The Lord has been forming your heart. cultivating it during your time with Him so you can bear more of His fruit. The invitation to gradually come through this unwanted season ny crossing into a new way of being. There is no end to His work, which is this.
The days of this season perhaps became holy where you entered, as into a cocoon, by your own choosing, and assisted by His grace-filled, gentle, helpful hand. There He transformed your heart to be lifted up more to the essence He is, so gradually you will learn to fly. To see more with God’s eyes the way and manner of your existence from here unto there. To know there will be pain. That suffering is real. And to acknowledge and let Him use it. To join your suffering with Christ’s as a prayer, offering and sacrifice. “Lord, use it all to gather, inform and restore more souls to Yourself. To You, who are the sole source of life and healing, peace and joy!”
Love coming through this and wanting to work in you until, out of the place of your pain, He has forged you even more into His instrument than ever before. You become one He is using and will use more to reach yet others. In their despair. In their pain. Not by denying yours or theirs, but by walking with them through it the way Spirit of God (of Baby Jesus) leads and enables.
Jesus rose from the dead. There is a rising for you, too. Before eternity. A going from that place of being on the ground unable to function, to rising in the midst. Spirit forming and lifting yet up into it. What the enemy meant for your crushing and crippling and destruction to be resurrected by God Himself. The wounds still there. Even for Jesus the resurrection did not erase the cross. It glorified it. Jesus’ glorified body still carries the unhealed wounds. Not scars, but unhealed holes!
You are to be more a lamp to shine His Light to others who are as yet shrouded in darkness. By now you know this is not about your perfection because that can never be. But about your orientation toward the One who loves with a submitted heart. You are waiting, listening and looking for Him, and finding Him, everywhere in every moment.
The coming end of the Christmas season usually does not change the condition of your life. It goes on. If there was pain and sorrow before, it is likely still there. But with God’s greater view. This is not a surprise. Expectations re-set. The glimpse of God-usefulness through it all. On a path home to Him. Hope. Every day. Purpose. In response to your trusting worship of Him in the midst.
The revelations God has for you do not end when the new year on the human calendar begins or the decorations come down. You have only begun. Hurting hearts, consecrated, dedicated and turned to God are touched by God, informed by Him, incrementally healed even as His truth comforts, consoles, and equips. Spirit still there always wanting to use you, in your circles, to be the vehicle through which He reveals Himself to more and touches them with great, needed, true love. Not through your grand ideas, but His God-ones.
For the healing of many hearts. Love expressed His way is the antidote to all which comes against His people to destroy. Such delight that He wants to use you! He plans it. In ways you know and ways you do not. Through your prayers and God-ordained actions in your dailiness. Joy. Peace. Your time to do what Mary and Joseph did. Still blind to what’s coming, choosing to trust God, embracing what is. In hope.
It is the moment You have provided, oh my Lord and my God. Your time for what is to be and what is yet to come. I do not want it to be wasted for this moment is not coming again. Show me Your will and let Your Spirit lead me in this. You are my strength. You are my song. You lift me up above all that which seeks to discourage and constrain to give me Your view so that in Your love I can go forth in Your purposes. For today. To accomplish Your will and not my own. This is bliss. This is life. Thankful! Glory be to You, my Lord Jesus Christ!
1 Arise [from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you—rise to a new life]! Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!
2 For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and dense darkness [all] peoples, but the Lord shall arise upon you [O Jerusalem], and His glory shall be seen on you.
3 And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.
4 Lift up your eyes round about you and see! They all gather themselves together, they come to you. Your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be carried and nursed in the arms.
5 Then you shall see and be radiant, and your heart shall thrill and tremble with joy [at the glorious deliverance] and be enlarged;…
