Only Jesus Remains– 66.Christmas Life

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro copyright 2020

Oct 22 to Jan 6 reflections from an upcoming book for tending hurting hearts at Christmas

The beauty of being united with Your will and seeking to dwell in You. To abide, so as to live out of this profound supernatural rest, which is a unique state of being versus doing. It is out of this state of being that all effective doing for You finds its source. Never leaving that place in You even though I am looking to do Your moment-by-moment will as activated by the Holy Spirit. Thus, this doing is also a type of being. It cannot be accomplished without the supernatural breeze of your Holy Spirit guiding me into Your will and inspiring and empowering me to stay with it. To stay in it.  Being in doing. Listening. Hyper-vigilance to Your movements. Through You, with You and in You in unity with the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor are Yours forever and ever!

The fear of the Lord as the beginning of Wisdom. The fear of You, Lord. The bowed down awe. You are the source and reason for every question and the fount of every answer. Heal my gaze, oh Lord. Heal my gaze.  I am looking too low. Too easily distracted by all that is less. Until You fill every hidden corner and wide expanse in my mind, life and heart.

I am mere reflection. I become like that which I behold. You call me to Christlikeness. To become ever-more as You are. I must behold You. Invisible except in You.

Jesus, You gave the perfect picture. You are Perfect One. The only One needed. To know You is to be in wonder of You. Not just how You healed people physically. That is less. But to see and know and understand the spiritual healings which You provided and still provide now. The utter fullness of life You brought which is never represented fully by this temporary now, but which can only be partially grasped as I allow You (invite You and beckon You), “please, oh my Lord and my God”, to take me higher, deeper–to a wider understanding of Your majestic, all-encompassing essence–which is true LOVE.

You beckon me. All of us. You take me, breathe new life into me by the water flowing from Your slain side and pierced Sacred heart and I am washed clean by it like waters in childbirth. This clears a path in my life—Your path—preparing for that coming of Your Spirit similar to what happened for You following Your own baptism. Breath of life.

Ah, how a baby first breathes the air outside the womb with a great sucking in and cry of astonishment. New life. Life fully here and not yet. For into the fullness of it, one must be grown. Molded by Your hand. Guided by Your Spirit.

Your Spirit also a tool in Father’s hand which cuts, shapes and forms me, sculpting more into the original beauty for which You made me. I do long to transform from being like a lump of coal to a diamond in Your grip sparkling forth Your essence. More like You yet always, always any beauty in me due to You for like a mirror I am to reflect only You. That which I choose to behold because I choose to be in You—I seek to be in You. Mysterious. Wonderful. Beyond human language description. The majesty and awesomeness of the One true triune God, supreme and superior beyond description who You are. You in me. Me in You. Destiny! Fullness.

Thank You for coming. Thank You for being here with us now. Thank You for the promise to come again. Thank You for Your current work and that forever with You will not end. And for going after every last one of us.

He said to them, It is not for you to become acquainted with and know what time brings [the things and events of time and their definite periods] or fixed years and seasons (their critical niche in time), which the Father has appointed (fixed and reserved) by His own choice and authority and personal power.

But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.

And when He had said this, even as they were looking [at Him], He was caught up, and a cloud received and carried Him away out of their sight.

10 And while they were gazing intently into heaven as He went, behold, two men [dressed] in white robes suddenly stood beside them,

11 Who said, Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing into heaven? This same Jesus, Who was caught away and lifted up from among you into heaven, will return in [just] the same way in which you saw Him go into heaven.

12 Then [the disciples] went back to Jerusalem from the hill called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, [only] a Sabbath day’s journey (three-quarters of a mile) away.

13 And when they had entered [the city], they mounted [the stairs] to the upper room where they were [indefinitely] staying—Peter and John and James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas [son] of James.

14 All of these with their minds in full agreement devoted themselves steadfastly to prayer, [waiting together] with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

Acts 1:7-14

And when the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all assembled together in one place,

When suddenly there came a sound from heaven like the rushing of a violent tempest blast, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting.

And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were separated and distributed and which settled on each one of them.

And they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression [in each tongue in appropriate words].

Now there were then residing in Jerusalem Jews, devout and God-fearing men from every country under heaven.

And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together and they were astonished and bewildered, because each one heard them [the apostles] speaking in his own [particular] dialect.

And they were beside themselves with amazement, saying, Are not all these who are talking Galileans?

Then how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own (particular) dialect to which we were born?…

12 And all were beside themselves with amazement and were puzzled and bewildered, saying one to another, What can this mean?

13 But others made a joke of it and derisively said, They are simply drunk and full of sweet [intoxicating] wine.

14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: You Jews and all you residents of Jerusalem, let this be [explained] to you so that you will know and understand; listen closely to what I have to say.

15 For these men are not drunk, as you imagine, for it is [only] the third hour (about 9:00 a.m.) of the day;

16 But [instead] this is [the beginning of] what was spoken through the prophet Joel:

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, God declares, that I will pour out of My Spirit upon all mankind, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy [telling forth the divine counsels] and your young men shall see visions (divinely granted appearances), and your old men shall dream [divinely suggested] dreams.

18 Yes, and on My menservants also and on My maidservants in those days I will pour out of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy [telling forth the divine counsels and predicting future events pertaining especially to God’s kingdom]…

38 …Repent (change your views and purpose to accept the will of God in your inner selves instead of rejecting it) and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of and release from your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

39 For the promise [of the Holy Spirit] is to and for you and your children, and to and for all that are far away, [even] to and for as many as the Lord our God invites and bids to come to Himself.

Acts 2: 1-8. 12-18, 38-39

I am a God-seeker--a Jesus-worshipper--a Holy Spirit follower. I create songs, devotions, prayers, books and Bible studies to give words with which to get to know God more. For you. Its for one-on-One encounter unto transformed, transcendent living. This is not my vocation. I am not professional. I am a real, ordinary person just looking to do what God put me here to do. (You have a unique purpose too.) So I am called to the work. It is not my income source, but my gift to those who find it blessing. Eagles Nest Foundation sponsors all projects for you. The result: pure, clean spiritual nutrition to feed that deep insatiable spiritual hunger which eventually overtakes each of us and galvanizes you to the life God has for you. This life is purposeful. Exceptional. You--yes, you--are called to something greater and more satisfying in His service. So it is hoped you'll try this spiritually dense nutrition and find it to be a personal blessing. However, the goodness of God-following doesn't stop there. He uses those who seek Him to be His love and care (justice, mercy, advocate, kindness) very tangibly in the lives of those around you. Not by your power but by His. His ideas. God ideas. Not just good ideas. To be part of changing the world, if you will let Him. You learn to just follow where He leads. That if you listen, He will teach you to hear His voice and then when you obey His inner promptings you will become His incredible hands and feet in this hard world. These materials will help! They will help you aim your life towards God in a way you never look back. You will not be the same. He will become the River in your desert spaces and you will become a conduit of this same River of refreshing, replenishing Water of Life to others. Find a prayer. Pick a blog post. Read a book. Be led deeper into the Bible. Select a song which resonates and use it and use it again to go close and ever closer to the God who longs to draw you near. Oh, and don't be tempted to think I'm a crazy over-spiritualized loony...My background is financial planning and counseling. Almost 40 years of it. To choose to believe in God is not to leave practicality and reason behind, but to learn that there is that which goes beyond it and includes it, unto true life fulfillment beyond all your dreams for the one who keeps seeking Him. I am a third generation Californian. I am a person to whom family means everything. The only priority higher is God. The foothills of the Sierra Nevada are my home. It is here the 1849-1856 Gold Rush is still glorified. Easy money? Actually only for the few. Even though I was raised in the Church, it took me ten years of doubting God even existed to realize that without Him, no matter how much of this life's "stuff" is accumulated, I actually have nothing. To come to know that all those who chased after gold are dead and all those who still chase stuff will be dead. That's when I became a God-seeker. Looking for that more. And Eureka! (This is California's state slogan and means I found it.) I found God...or rather, I discovered He was there and had been there waiting for me to look for Him the whole time. May you discover more of Him for you, greater flourishing life and greater flourishing for all in the world as well. God bless you! ~Elizabeth
