Oct 22 to Jan 6 reflections from an upcoming book for tending hurting hearts at Christmas
So interesting that You, my God promise to replace my heart of stone with a heart of flesh as part of Your new creation. Doesn’t this make me more vulnerable to hurt? Why would I want that?
Jesus, You talk about a relationship with You which is beyond what I can imagine…No matter how much I think about it, it is beyond my grasp to fathom this mystery You offer. There is no human relationship that can compare.
Yes, Baby Jesus, You were called Emmanuel—God-with-us. The God-command was to name You, Jesus, which means “God saves”. Yes. You will invite me to the relationship of abiding which You have with Father. You in me and me in You. But hold on now… What?! You knock on the door of my heart to see if I will invite you in where I unite my purposes to Yours and become a vessel for Your work to flow through in the world. A soldier in Your army. An instrument of Your love which stands for Your Spirit-led truth in compassion to usher in Your justice and be your warm hug for all.
Your tender touch less a condemning one and more transforming. You are changing me in Your loving-kindness so I am a willing vessel emptied and still emptying. Thus ever-ready for flow-through of the Spirit. You are the One who empties me. Who molds me. You reveal Yourself and motivate me from within. To act with-out. Beyond myself. But this also stems from choosing to walk through the Door You are to abide in You. Not just You in me, but I in You. Both at the same time. To be at rest in You as Your child with You, the Parent. You, my Refuge and Hiding Place. My High Tower. My Sanctuary (safe place) and Fortress (my defense). My place of steady, constant inner rest. Home!
You are the Guardian for my heart so it can stay vulnerable and not hardened. You are my Shield where Your view of me and Your purpose for me is my protection and motivation to live and live fully even now. For You! Thus, through You and in You is all the armor I need!
What You think is all that matters. What You know. (You know everything!) More like You is how I long to be, so like Jesus it won’t matter anymore what people think. The One I answer to is You. The One I long to please. And then to find my life ever and always in that safe place. In You as You are in me. In Trinity. Living here now.
Oh, be still my heart. How am I to fathom the gift of this place of abiding?! Awe and revel in this! My King, Savior and God!
9 I have loved you, [just] as the Father has loved Me; abide in My love [continue in His love with Me].
10 If you keep My commandments [if you continue to obey My instructions], you will abide in My love and live on in it, just as I have obeyed My Father’s commandments and live on in His love.
11 I have told you these things, that My joy and delight may be in you, and that your joy and gladness may be of full measure and complete and overflowing.
12 This is My commandment: that you love one another [just] as I have loved you.
