Oct 22 to Jan 6 reflections from an upcoming book for tending hurting hearts at Christmas
It’s okay. It’s not okay, but it will be okay. And where you are is not the exception, but the rule. It is to be expected. God will walk with you through it.
You can lay down every lesser element of what you thought was the good life. That picture of success and goodness toward which you were subconsciously striving. You can then let this go.
Instead now there is a more real-seemingly-surreal picture of life which was not on your list and you didn’t want but suddenly is.
It’s still Christmas. Not because of a date arbitrarily put on a calendar (which likely is not the time of year He was born at all), but because Jesus was actually born. It happened.
And thanks be to God that He was! It is still Christmas because Jesus came and you know you are journeying home. To be celebrated that you are on the way and there is reunion coming which will never end, where conflict is past and there is only good. And peace. And love.
Celebration because Jesus showed the way it would be here and how to make best use of this life which you have been given. Your life is never going nowhere. You are not to squander time by waiting for your life to be over or choosing to leave before His appointed time. But to have the courage to let Him help you through what He knows is breaking your heart.
For He wants to use you. He wants to employ you. If you will let Him. For projects which have value beyond any job humanity can dream up. Sometimes how He uses you is in the midst of projects and activities to which you already are obliged. Sometimes theshow He uses you is with a call to something separate and new. The value always the same. Bliss-full. Blessed. Because these are by His design. Part of His army on undercover assignment. To bring the news of the reality He is and His love and His destiny for each one to a thirsty, dying world.
Because Jesus did not just come to open some ethereal door to our eternal home which somehow is there before us at the end of our days. No. With Jesus’ birth, God’s kingdom reign began here in our midst (God-with-us). Jesus showed the way.
Where is He nudging you? It need not be measurable or great in society’s eyes. God’s ways are often not those of culture. Consider Jesus!
Sometimes that to which He seems to be calling may seem so small as to be deemed inconsequential. But be careful. That is a dangerous descriptive. Because no assignment from Him is insignificant. Perhaps He is calling you to utter a private whispered prayer for someone else. Perhaps it’s a timely word of encouragement. The writing of a card. A compassionate, understanding smile. Perhaps it’s the courage to forgive and do what you can (if you can) to authentically reconcile, so in your heart you can also bless.
No…small…thing. Not one. All of these large in the Kingdom of God! Whatever Holy Spirit is nudging you to do, it adds to the shift in the vibrations in the atmosphere and brings more of God’s love and way into the existence of our now. Every bit matters. Every thought. Every act.
Receipt of the assignments begins when you meet with God ongoing in inner stillness, and with the silent, courageous embrace of this season the way it is. This is the Way which then flows out into His action according to His will one by one to a dying world. Including through you.
Heavenly Child, You came to us. To me. You opened the door back to reunion with You. This is that for which You made each one of us. It can be such a mess here. So much so that sometimes I am one who makes it worse. Not on purpose. You know this. But Your Plan is over-riding. How I love to be and stay in Your flow. Your River of refreshing is flowing down from the throne of God even now. It is mystical and unseen, but to be experienced. You working through us and doing spiritual heart work in each one. Offering healing one to the other so we can love more Your way now. No thing small! This You showed. A Baby. You came as a Baby. As one of us. To be that Love. You gave up Your throne. I give You my life. Work through me to spread Your essence which is true love to more people Your way. I trust in You.
8 And in that vicinity there were shepherds living [out under the open sky] in the field, watching [in shifts] over their flock by night.
9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord flashed and shone all about them, and they were terribly frightened.
10 But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people.
11 For to you is born this day in the town of David a Savior, Who is Christ (the Messiah) the Lord!
36 Teacher, which kind of commandment is great and important (the principal kind) in the Law? [Some commandments are light—which are heavy?]
37 And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect).
38 This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment.
39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself.
40 These two commandments sum up and upon them depend all the Law and the Prophets.
