Oct 22 to Jan 6 reflections from an upcoming book for tending hurting hearts at Christmas
The Lord promises if you seek Him, He will be found. He will answer. Holy Spirit hears your heart. It is His job in God’s timing and inscrutable way to supply all your needs. Encountering Jesus by taking time to gaze at Him provides the Truth you need to still stand in life’s storms without collapsing, while bowing low in trusting, surrendered submission to the God you choose to believe is there. He will show you with ever greater clarity the actual life for which you were created (instead of how you may have thought it should be). His comfort coming alongside you and staying even when there may be evil. Not a denial of the ugly that is, but His compassionate care through it.
Yet, patience required. Sometimes excruciatingly. The answers will come in His timing. But this timing likely will not be yours. Thus, the pain of now which stands naked and seemingly without relief even though you are doing what you can to trust Him.
In the despair while you wait, try not to despair more. The truth is will come. If you wait, ultimately what is revealed and where He leads will allow you to come along more consistently behind your Shepherd. To better follow Him. In His peace. With new understanding which has been God-revealed but helps you through your every day. Especially when your daily life has become more likely different than you thought. What gift this long sought, accompanying God-given relief.
How the Lord provides this increasing understanding may seem fractured. Delivered in what seem like pieces and gradually instead of all at once. But eventually, bit by bit, these pieces strung together will eventually give you His revelation and in a way that is comfort to your hurting heart even as new, subsequent questions for Him arise.
He is not slow. Really, He isn’t. The answers will come like new spring must, if you hold fast before Him seeking and do not give up!
Baby Jesus, what an amazing Teacher You are. In You and how You came I do see the sufficiency of God. And Your presence in and through all things. Interestingly and perhaps especially when I cannot see. I want to have all the answers now. But I know You are greater than this. Heavenly One who loves, release an increasing river of Your peace to flow through my heart as I learn to wait on Your answers and will as the Holy Family did. You are faithful!
8 Nevertheless, do not let this one fact escape you, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.
2 Peter 3:8-9
5 Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
6 In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.
