Oct 22 to Jan 6 reflections from an upcoming book for tending hurting hearts at Christmas
Jesus was born. But why is that important? Does it have relevance beyond His kingdom come forever after death with the gate to reunion wide open again to those who choose to follow? What about now? What does Christmas and all can after it mean for you today? How does Christmas and Jesus coming and living (not just dying and rising again) mean for your life on earth until heaven? Certainly, the importance of Jesus is not relegated to a cross. This minimizes the revelation of God which Jesus gave us.
When you take time to open yourself to the richer, more expanded and definitely more true view God wants to give you of Himself, the results do not begin and end with a hovering Holy Family, star, angels, shepherds and wise man.
Jesus’ whole life mattered. Way. Truth. Life. You are called to pick up your cross and follow. Not just say some form of “Jesus, You are Savior”, but to understand He is Lord. Boss. He leads. You follow. You imitate and reflect which you can only do by looking at Him and learning from Him. To be apprenticed by Him, which comes out of focused time together. Because He wants to work through you to reach the world. One more person at a time. Not to be preaching at people as much as being one through whom Holy Spirit puts His plan into action in a manner, they encounter God. To encounter. To meet God. To experience Him! This was what happened to all those who came upon Jesus during His earthly life. He was in the will of God and people experienced the one true, living and active God through Him. Every story of Jesus’ life helps you to see.
Thus, the joy of approaching His story eagerly. Yes, His birth, but every other aspect of it, too. Excitement! Bowed, humble unto awe. This is Jesus! The One who showed us God. This is Jesus, whose Spirit is present for us now.
In the gospels a treasure chest has been laid before you. To amaze and ignite increasing wonder. You will never comprehend this Way which is true life fully! Encountering Jesus in the gospels is a learning trajectory which keeps going and becomes more satisfying with each step.
Read. Study. Ruminate. Question. Ponder. Wait for those interior answers from Him which will come. Seeking revelation of God through the One who most clearly showed Him to us. Yes, through a prophesied virgin birth and manger. But additionally, so much more. Where will you begin? Going deeper into the gospels which share the life of Jesus can be a seemingly random, Holy-Spirit led opening to a page or a nudge to sequentially indulge in what St. Matthew, St. Mark, St. Luke or St. John as to share with you. When you go quiet within, what is Holy Spirit’s nudge for your now? What is this aspect of His story communicating? How does this relate to you and your life? Not just later, but now?
Lord God Most High, what do I need to learn about You now which will help. being more activated into Your service seems the only thing which offers true hope. Jesus, this is who You were and are. This was an dis Your way. The way of life You uncover for me more and more. This is the tru riches of Your wisdom so that my thirst can be quenched and I can submit more to Your good, growing process as the Master Potter who molds me as Your beloved lump of clay.
6 For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father [of Eternity], Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from the [latter] time forth, even forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unfathomable (inscrutable, unsearchable) are His judgments (His decisions)! And how untraceable (mysterious, undiscoverable) are His ways (His methods, His paths)!
34 For who has known the mind of the Lord and who has understood His thoughts, or who has [ever] been His counselor?
35 Or who has first given God anything that he might be paid back or that he could claim a recompense?
36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. [For all things originate with Him and come from Him; all things live through Him, and all things center in and tend to consummate and to end in Him.] To Him be glory forever! Amen (so be it).
