Illness, injury, injustice, heartache. No matter how much we try to avoid these under our own power and no matter how much we pray, these cannot be escaped.
Many of us have this mistaken notion that if we pray hard enough or try hard enough this temporary life in this temporary world can become heaven. It cannot. It was never intended to be that way. However, two things are certain.
First, when we are in a dark valley and it is hard, Jesus is there with us for He never leaves or forsakes us. Jesus suffered here too and understands. Even in the worst places for us, He is still there and still leading us through.
Secondly, if we let Him, our Lord will work through us—sometimes especially in those undesirable places—to do His exquisitely beautiful forever-(eternity)-focused work in us and through us to touch the world.
He wants to touch the world. This includes each and every person because here is not His best for us. There is so much more! But He needs us to give Him our attention so He can lead us there. He needs us to know we require Him and depend on Him so we will follow where He is leading. The path—His path—leads home. His path leads to completion and fullness. It leads to everlasting life and JOY.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand…For I am the LORD your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.’ (Isa. 41:10,13)
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9)
28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint. (Isa. 40:38-31)
SELAH! (pause and calmly think of that)
