Seems like for all of us we are either in a storm or there is a storm brewing at all times–always something threatening on the horizon or which has to be dealt with already. Our Lord is very aware that this is how our lives are. Jesus lived this too.
Yet in spite of this reality, our Lord says we are NOT to worry. He is Dwelling Place, Refuge, never leaves us or forsakes us (or those we love) and has all things in His hands. These are but some of His promises!
Hmmm….so what are we to do instead of worry and be anxious? We choose to TRUST Him, consciously laying down our burdens and lifting our eyes to Him until our thoughts are transformed by the Truth of who He is, which silences the worry of what might be.
His response is to reward us with His rest, His gift of inner peace. Then as when we choose to use our precious time and energy to WORSHIP and PRAISE our LORD instead of worrying or despairing, He rewards this sacrificial expression of trust with an invasion of His love and power into our circumstances in bold, brilliant, often-wonderful ways we cannot anticipate. We are stunned by His actions, awed by His masterful demonstrations of supremacy and His infinitely kind expressions of supreme love. He is not just a God far away, but shows us He is near and very much God of the details.
When we change our worry into worship, taking our thoughts captive to Christ, choosing to change the wording of our prayers to reflect our confidence in who HE is and HIS promises, two profound things happen. We are changed from the inside out in ways which delight and nourish our souls. Simultaneously, He comes and by His might, in His perfect timing He shifts our circumstances in ways which are glorious.
This will never be heaven! Worshiping the Lord does not guarantee we get what we want! However, it does help us to remain in the gift of His peace which surpasses all understanding in all circumstances and to be ready to accept that which is His will versus our own. In addition, because hectic and anxiety are not reigning and ruling within us, it causes His Light to illumine us more from the inside out, which helps others to find Him and therewith make progress on their own journeys home. This is the Lord’s heart! It is fulfillment of His great mission for all He loves (and yes, He loves all). Yes, indeed, our King uses all, all, all things for good in light of His eternal purposes and His divine plans are a reflection of His unlimited, infinite, insatiable love for every single one of us.
When we choose worship instead of worry, we facilitate the ushering in of fulfillment of His purposes, giving Him permission—yes, even invitation–for His Holy Spirit to work for us and through us. Our worship honors Him in a way which invites more of His Spirit into the atmosphere where He cannot help but continue the healing, restoring work He longs to do in others as they begin to have encounters with Him as well. This is never by our power but by His response to our choice to worship. It is part of His kingdom come, His will be done on earth as in heaven, for which Jesus told us to pray.
Our Lord reigns! Thank goodness!
Thanks be to You, Lord! What would our lives be without You?!
Therefore when trials threaten or come–and they do–we look to change our thoughts and words into utterances of adoration. We go from, “Lord, help!” to “Lord, thank You that You are in control and greater than every circumstance. Thank You for Your perfect plan and power to complete it.” Then the One Who can, does. It’s a promise. Amen? Amen!
Matt. 6:25-31 (NIV)
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Jer. 29:11 (NIV)
11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
