On a drive home from Fair Oaks, California to San Ramon, California from approaching Tracy, the rest of the way home on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 the Lord and I had a conversation. Over the years, I have learned He often talks to me on these longer drives and to have a notepad ready to write. With practice I have learned not to look down, but to have this notepad at my right side, supported by the car console, and without looking away from the road, steering with my left arm, to scribble down whatever the Lord drops into my mind. Here is the January 15, 2013 result. I pray it is blessing. ~ Elizabeth
Another day draws to a close. The stark late afternoon sun casts sharp light on the fallow, untilled farm fields which stretch as far as the eye can see until they reach the purple silhouette of the distant western hills. Unplowed and unseeded the fields lie waiting in the chill air, which does not invite life to spring forth. It is the season of pause, of waiting, of patient, trusting submission to what is while yet anticipating that which is to come.
What is it, Lord? I feel the Lord’s nudge. He had called me to just be quiet with Him during the drive. Worship melodies run in the background subconscious of my mind, but consciously He has called me to be still with Him – at rest in Him. No conscious stream of worship or intercession regardless of the many needs of which I am aware.
Cars zoom past at lightning speed in both directions. I move with them. People are on their way home after another day of work.
What is it, Lord? What is it? What do You want me to see, to know, to understand? My only heart’s cry on this afternoon, which I have spoken and stilled in response to Your request from me is that I would experience You greater (more) as the One Who loves. Such a seemingly strange thing to ask of You, when the greatest manifestation of Your love was the gift of Your Son, Jesus on the cross and Your Spirit sent to us now until You call us home. Newly at Your call I have composed and recorded ten new worship songs contemplating this Jesus – suffering, dying, rising and giving us Your Spirit all for love – and yet I dare ask for more. Lord, I want to know You more fully as the One who loves. And there it is, Your nudge again to be still quickly followed by the nudge to see and know.
What, Lord, what? As the three lanes of cars flow westward, together we are caught up in, illuminated by and made as one in the bright orange glow of the setting sun.
And then in an instant, Lord I hear You and I know. I know what You have been trying to tell me. Of what You are wanting to remind me. It’s the people. They are passing away. Another day gone. This generation is passing away – every day more. It is how it has always been – each generation born for such a time as this, living in the world created by You, which by Your care and provision, is a manifestation of Your ongoing Your love all around us daily. You don’t want any person to pass away without knowing You! Not knowing about You, but knowing You – as the One who loves and keeps on loving. In love, You created. In love, You provided a way to be with You through Jesus. In love, You did not leave us as orphans but sent Your Spirit – available to all who seek. In love, You have a plan for our lives. Constant and forever, Your love never changes. In the wonder of the character of this love, Your love is not earned, but simply there. You love each of us infinitely and unconditionally exactly as we are. Your love remains constant when we choose to love You back and when we don’t. Your love remains the same, loving us in the same infinite amount when we choose You as Lord, seeking to follow and obey and when we do not.
You love us so much, yet never succumb to the all-too-human error of holding us too tightly. You love us enough to always leave us our free will to choose to be with You or not. You always want us with You! Nothing we can do will ever cause us to lose Your love.
And yet there are consequences to our choices. If we choose to go our own way Your love remains, but You will respect our wishes. If we choose You, the choice must manifest in our actions – not just words – in order to be authentic. You look at our hearts, which can be seen in our priorities. We are Your priority. Are You ours?
And so today asking to know You as the One who loves, You are reminding me that with each day, more pass away and You just want them to know You so as many as possible choose to enter their destiny to be with You forever.
The sun is setting, molten fiery object dropping now behind the western horizon of silhouetted purple mountains majestically displaying the glory You are and Your way every moment by their mere existence. As the sun disappears behind the horizon, light begins to melt away too disintegrating into darkness.
And the Lord asks: Do you love Me?
He continues. Will you love them as I love you?
Yes, Lord, but only if You will give me Your heart and moment by moment if You will show me how.
And therein is the purpose of our lives – to give Him glory, to obey that all might see Him at work through us – not by our power, but by His.
Will you love them?
Oh, Lord, I am willing! Here’s my heart. Lead me.
And He speaks, His words dropping one by one into my quieted mind as I drive westward toward the fading light and into the coming night.
Remember as you seek to love them, it is not yours to judge, My child. It is not yours to exalt yourself above anyone. It frequently is not yours to preach or exhort, but to live in the moment loving Me, making Me your singular focus and because you love Me, seeking to do as Jesus: laying aside your own will to seek and embrace Mine. Listening for My voice and learning to recognize it, laying aside your well-intentioned good ideas to embrace My perfect, eternal-reaching God-ideas. And I will them love them and reveal Myself to them through your focus on and obedience to Me.
I AM. I AM. I AM. I do not change. I never give up. I value every life I created equally. I love each person I created equally. I hate what is evil but love the person affected, even the one controlled by it. I love during wrong choices equally with during right. But My focus is to offer and execute redemption one person at a time.
To the extent you are building a business or a ministry according to an earthly model (human wisdom – the way “all” say it must be to be a “success”), to this extent you are distracted. This is not My way!
Focus on doing the work I put before you moment by moment. Be aware of the dreams I have placed in your heart for what is to come and know I have not forgotten. But do not measure your life’s success with anything besides your obedience to Me. Obedience is My desired expression of your choice to reciprocate My love. Obedience is a sacrifice of praise, an offering of worship of Me to Me, which makes your life into a sweet fragrance rising up to My throne. This is not an obedience which says “yes” merely to salvation, but the bowed down allegiance of moment by moment obedience of a knight in My service, in the service of the King (who is Lord), knowing I am King and worthy of honor, tribute and obedience, knowing you are not king and as King, I always know best.
Love them with My love wherever your day takes you. I will supply the direction and power moment by moment by My Spirit whom I place in you when you choose to believe. Do not judge. Do not condemn. No one is perfect. Not you and none of them. But you are all passing away from this brief season of life. Every day is precious. Live glad for the work of your hands and the work by My Spirit at work through your work.
Sometimes the work will be to give, sometimes to receive graciously, sometimes to wait patiently, often just to show kindness, once in a while to draw a line (a boundary for My righteousness way or for your protection or the protection of others) standing up for what is right and true.
Be My love. That is your work for today. Connect in prayer, be empowered by My response to your ongoing worship. Seek to be in Me as I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. Know I am there in the small “stuff”, in the bad “stuff” and in the joyful “stuff”, wanting to use all of it working through you to reveal Me.
In this world, you will have troubles, but your assignment here is brief and I will be with you through it, using it all to make people aware of Me, my love, eternity and the choice.
My people – will you love them? Will you love them when it hurts? Will you love them when there is offense? Will you love when there is no response? Will you love them when here seems to be no effect?
Will you love when I send you forth? Will you love when I want you to stay where you are? I already love you infinitely, you know. I cannot love you more, but obey and you will experience me more.
My name is Father.
My name is Jesus.
My name is Spirit.
and I AM True Love.
