Lord, another day is done. It is time to prepare for the next. Each day is a blessing – a gift from You to be carefully opened and cherished, for no one knows when his or her last day will be. To be done with this life would not be tragic, but it would be hard, for there are those You have put in my life whom I love and I would have to leave them for now. Therefore I cherish each day which You provide, where You enable me to be in You and You in me (because I seek You and to be attached to You in all things) and You enable me to serve where You call me.
Lord, sometimes it seems as though here as it is now is not what I thought would be and yet You are Sovereign. You are also trustworthy and so in You I have placed my trust.
Sometimes I recall things You have spoken to my heart which were to be and are not. It does not dash my faith. I know Your ways are above my understanding. But it does cause me to pause sometimes and be tempted to be melancholy. Lord, forgive me. For then I consider all You have provided, the many ways You have taken care of me through all circumstances and must remind myself again that this is earth not heaven. You never promised perfection or that it would be easy here. You promised never to leave me or forsake me and You never do.
As I gaze into Your eyes, purposefully turning my attention from any and all hopes, dreams and things which might tempt me to pay more attention to them, than I do to You, I am face to face with Your love for me. I melt in humble amazement and fall yet deeper in love with You, for You know my every imperfection and shortcoming, yet Your love for me remains. Forgive me that I have been distracted from what is truly important – drawing closer to You. Forgive me that I have worried I would not have what I want when You are all that I need and all that I want. Forgive me for forgetting all You have done for me and having the attitude of a spoiled child instead of being thankful. Forgive me for concerning myself with earthly things which lack substance and will not last. These are but a vapor – a mist – here one moment and gone the next.
But You are. You are always by my side. You hear me, speak to Me and lead me in the way I should go. You use all things for good in light of eternity. All things.
Right now in this moment once again I bow. I choose You for I know I need You as Savior and I desire You as my Lord.
Because You are God, You know. You know where I am and why I am here. Because You are God, You have the power to move me (and those I love), when it is time for the next step of what I thought was to be or yet something new from You. Until then I can rest in You, be content with such things as I have, thankful in all things and rejoice in the work of my hands, which You have provided perfectly.
I am so human and weak! I need You! Still my heart. Fill me with Your peace. Teach me to love and guide me until loving You and loving others because I love You is the singular object of my attention. Help me to rest in You at all times, entering Your Dwelling Place with constant ongoing worship, thanksgiving and praise.
You are; You are; You are. There is none like You. I have no worries. I fear You alone. You will put me under the shadow of Your wings and care for me perfectly until You bring me home.
In Jesus’ name, Amen
Christmas is coming. A few years ago, the Lord whispered to my heart that He wanted to be worshipped at Christmas and He showed me how many of the songs we sing beautifully tell the story of His birth and why He came, but very few actually worship Him during this festive season. So I asked Him what songs He wanted released. The result is CHRISTMAS WORSHIP, which includes 7 new, original Christmas worship songs, which the Lord had me compose specifically for this project. (Music clips can be heard at the CD Baby link. It is also available on itunes.)
May God receive the honor and worship He is due this Christmas season!
