Once upon a time there was a great King. He was more powerful than any other and unlike anything else on the earth or in the universe, for He was not created. He was the Creator. He had always been. He did not change, grow or develop. He was. And there was no one wiser than He because as the Creator He was supreme in every way over everything created. He was the embodiment of all true Wisdom.
Yet unlike many mortal kings who would be here and gone with the passage of time as each generation passed away and the new one rose to power, He was all good and never-ending.
None of His motives were selfish, for He was completely selfless. Though He had all power, He did not seek to dominate by this power. In fact, He did not force His subjects to do anything. He loved them. He loved all who dwelt on the earth – both the subjects of His kingdom and those outside His kingdom.
But even in this love, His kingdom was one of extreme order, not anarchy. There were very specific, unchanging, unwavering, not-up-for-discussion, not-to-be-questioned principles upon which His kingdom was established. This was because these principles were not arbitrary, but reflected the essence of Who He was. And just as much of His creation had cause and effect – for instance there was a principle called gravity which dictated that whatever went up into the air eventually had to come back down – there were principles of cause and effect which resulted from His way and gave certain structure to the operation of His kingdom.
Because He was (and is) an infinite God, so superior to human beings in His wisdom that He could not be fully comprehended, only a few of of the most basic principles have been included in this tale.
The first principle was that in order to be in His kingdom, one had to recognize He alone was King (and Sovereign above all) and to revere, honor and bow to His supremacy. He was the one and only Lord! This was a reasonable principle. Why would anyone want to be subject to a king whom they did not believe was worthy of being bowed to? And why would a king want anyone in his kingdom who was not willing to submit to his rule? (In most earthly kingdoms, those who do not submit to the rule of the realm are imprisoned or exiled.)
The second principle was that He would never force anyone to become part of His kingdom. It would be the choice of each individual whether he or she chose to be in His kingdom (or not). And so He allowed another supernatural, but inferior created being, who was His anti-thesis (complete and total opposite) to rule the air and roam around looking for people to devour. This adversary provided the people with a clear choice. Each individual now could decide personally whether he or she wanted to submit to the King of kings’ dominion and be a citizen of His eternal, all-good kingdom or be under the dominion of the evil one.
The third principle which was foundational in the King’s realm, was that He created each individual so no one could ever be perfect, though He was perfect. This was for His good pleasure, so the King could show His subjects how much He loved them.
Since anyone who wanted to be near His perfection would have to be perfect too, this perfection would have to come through the forgiveness and wiping away of all former transgressions. Being an action-consequence Creator, it was such that there was a price to be paid for each transgression in order for it to be wiped clean as if it had never happened (and forgotten). The King understood the system He had set up. It was not a mistake and He definitely was not trying to keep anyone out of His kingdom. He was setting up a dual dynamic.
On the one hand, He wanted every person to know the depths of His love. Thus from the creation of the universe, He had known He would send His Son to live, die and rise again, by His death paying the price for all the past, present and future transgressions of anyone who asked Him to forgive them. In this way, by the price He paid, individuals who sought His assistance (His salvation from what they could not save themselves) could be perfect as He was perfect and thus enter into the Kingdom of the Father forever.
In addition, He wanted each person to understand that he or she needed the escort of the Son in order to gain entry into this eternity He had planned. He wanted each person to know he or she was dependent upon the Son and not He on us. He wanted all people to understand the royal organizational structure: He was King; all people who chose to be in His kingdom were the subjects. He was the Father; the people were the beloved children. The people were incapable; yet each person could do all things through Christ who provided the strength – including the way to enter eternity with the beloved King.
And this was how this King ruled His kingdom forever and ever. Those who chose to be His subjects dwelt in His kingdom always in great peace. This peace and an all encompassing inner joy remained with them whether they were on assignment for the King as ambassadors in a foreign land, living life in a physical body temporarily, or if they were together with all the generations of His people who had lived for Him before and now celebrated the King together day and night in His intimate throne room Presence. All who knew Him and chose Him as Savior, Lord (and King) lived happily ever after…..
NOTE: this is NO fairy tale!!! It is the Truth of Father God, Jesus Christ and the Most Holy Spirit!!! Our God reigns!!!
16For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 NIV)
Selah! [Pause, and calmly think of that!]
