You are Beloved, Chosen By GOD & Beautiful!

Your Way is higher, better and Truth! Halle Yahweh (Praise You, God!)

by Elizabeth Burgard Fulgaro (c) 2011

In February 2010 I was asked to lead a time of contemplation or meditation at our church women’s retreat.  When I asked the Lord, what He wanted for the women, He highlighted the mirror which would be in each participant’s gift bag and reminded me that how most women see themselves is not the way God desires.  No matter how beautiful others see them, I cannot think of a woman who believes she is beautiful.

Of course, God’s way is different.  He sees our beauty from the inside out.  He knows the body we live in is a mere temporary tent for our physical lifetimes.  And He knows He made us beautiful and in His image.  He loves us infinitely as we are and chooses us as His adopted children, beloved bride through whom He works to accomplish His eternal purposes on the earth.

The negative barrage on our minds can be overwhelming at times.  It is good to take moments daily to pause to see ourselves from God’s perspective so we can stop spending so much time beating up on ourselves and realize who we are in Him and to Him.  Below are statements based on Scripture (they are NOT direct quotes from a particular translation).  These are the Truth of who we are to God.  These are God’s promises.  It is a partial list, please go through your own Bible to find more.

May be always be reminded by His Spirit to see ourselves through His eyes, embrace His love and spread it to others.  May you be refreshed and encouraged.

AND MEN, this is for you, too.  If the word “beautiful” isn’t an appealing adjective with which to describe yourself, insert “handsome” or even “successful” and get a better picture of how the Father sees you!

May we be set emotionally free by the Truth of how God sees us. (And His opinion is the only one, which matters.)

You are beloved and chosen by God; He made you beautiful and in His image.

God created you in His own image.  In the image of God He created you.  (from Gen. 1:27)

The Spirit of God made you, the breath of the Almighty give you life.  (from Job 33:4)

He made you a little lower than the angels and crowned you with glory and honor.  (from Ps. 8:5)

You are beloved and chosen by God; He made you beautiful and in His image.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that you who believe in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.  (from John 3:16)

To you who believe in His name, He gave the right to become children of God – born not of natural descent nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. (from John 1:13)

He chose you in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight.  In love He predestined you to be adopted as His daughters through Jesus Christ in accordance with His pleasure and will. (from Eph. 1:4)

He says,  “I have loved you with an everlasting love. I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” (from Jer. 31:3)

You are beloved and chosen by God; He made you beautiful and in His image.

You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness and into His wonderful life.  Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not receive mercy, but now you have received mercy. (from 1 Peter 2:9-10)

He says, “I am the Bread of Life.” (from John 6:48)

You are beloved and chosen by God; He made you beautiful and in His image.

For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you.  You will seek and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (from Jer. 29:11-13)

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for you.  His love endures forever; He will not abandon the works of His hands. (from Ps. 138:8)

For God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness” makes His light to shine in your heart to give you the light of the knowledge of God in the face of Christ. (from 2 Cor. 4:6)

But you have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God not from you.  (from 2 Cor. 4:7)

He says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness….For when you are weak, then you are strong.”  (from 2 Cor. 12:9)

You are beloved and chosen by God; He made you beautiful and in His image.

For you are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  (from Eph. 2:10)

And you know all things in God work for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.  (from Rom. 8:28)

Therefore there is now no condemnation for you who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spriti of life set you free from the law of sin and death.  (from Rom. 8:1)

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.  (from Ps. 37:4)

You are beloved and chosen by God; He made you beautiful and in His image.

(Now read what follows below out loud , know it is for YOU and trust God that what He has written in His Book is True)

PS  139

1O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.

2You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.

3You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

4Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.

5You hem me in–behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.

6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

7Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

8If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

9If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,

10even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

11If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,”

12even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.

13For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

15My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.  When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

16your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

17How precious tome are your thoughts, O God!  How vast is the sum of them!

18Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you

Eph 2

10For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

 PS. 63

3Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.

4I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.

5My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

I am beloved and chosen by God.  He made me in His image and beautiful…

Selah [Pause, and calmly think of that]!

I am a God-seeker--a Jesus-worshipper--a Holy Spirit follower. I create songs, devotions, prayers, books and Bible studies to give words with which to get to know God more. For you. Its for one-on-One encounter unto transformed, transcendent living. This is not my vocation. I am not professional. I am a real, ordinary person just looking to do what God put me here to do. (You have a unique purpose too.) So I am called to the work. It is not my income source, but my gift to those who find it blessing. Eagles Nest Foundation sponsors all projects for you. The result: pure, clean spiritual nutrition to feed that deep insatiable spiritual hunger which eventually overtakes each of us and galvanizes you to the life God has for you. This life is purposeful. Exceptional. You--yes, you--are called to something greater and more satisfying in His service. So it is hoped you'll try this spiritually dense nutrition and find it to be a personal blessing. However, the goodness of God-following doesn't stop there. He uses those who seek Him to be His love and care (justice, mercy, advocate, kindness) very tangibly in the lives of those around you. Not by your power but by His. His ideas. God ideas. Not just good ideas. To be part of changing the world, if you will let Him. You learn to just follow where He leads. That if you listen, He will teach you to hear His voice and then when you obey His inner promptings you will become His incredible hands and feet in this hard world. These materials will help! They will help you aim your life towards God in a way you never look back. You will not be the same. He will become the River in your desert spaces and you will become a conduit of this same River of refreshing, replenishing Water of Life to others. Find a prayer. Pick a blog post. Read a book. Be led deeper into the Bible. Select a song which resonates and use it and use it again to go close and ever closer to the God who longs to draw you near. Oh, and don't be tempted to think I'm a crazy over-spiritualized loony...My background is financial planning and counseling. Almost 40 years of it. To choose to believe in God is not to leave practicality and reason behind, but to learn that there is that which goes beyond it and includes it, unto true life fulfillment beyond all your dreams for the one who keeps seeking Him. I am a third generation Californian. I am a person to whom family means everything. The only priority higher is God. The foothills of the Sierra Nevada are my home. It is here the 1849-1856 Gold Rush is still glorified. Easy money? Actually only for the few. Even though I was raised in the Church, it took me ten years of doubting God even existed to realize that without Him, no matter how much of this life's "stuff" is accumulated, I actually have nothing. To come to know that all those who chased after gold are dead and all those who still chase stuff will be dead. That's when I became a God-seeker. Looking for that more. And Eureka! (This is California's state slogan and means I found it.) I found God...or rather, I discovered He was there and had been there waiting for me to look for Him the whole time. May you discover more of Him for you, greater flourishing life and greater flourishing for all in the world as well. God bless you! ~Elizabeth

  1. My nephew suffers from Down’s Syndrome however if you ask you will find he is the bright spot in many peoples lives. He recently got into the habit of saying to his mom or aunts “your beautiful” or to his father or uncles “your handsome”. After reading this wonderful piece of inspiration I have come to believe he is much smarter and maybe knows a little more than one may think. Thank you Elizabeth it was wonderfully written.

    1. Dear Mike, thank you so much for writing! Such a wonderful story about your nephew! If you like visit: This is a music video to the song, “One Nation Under God” which the Lord led me to compose and record as we remember the 9-11 attacks. The song dropped into my head when I asked God if He had a message for us on 9-11-11. Thus to me, this song embodies His message. The focus is two-fold and links to what you have shared about your nephew. First, the song declares “one nation under God”. What we declare we become. Even on July 4, 1776 when we declared our independence we were far from it. We had years yet of war to fight before we finally became independent. We need to declare we are “one nation under God”! Secondly, (and here’s where your story comes in), when I asked the Lord about the song, He whispered to my heart that coming up on the 10th year since the attacks, we should focus less on the evil which came against us and more our response. People who were unknown in the eyes of broader society (and thus not attributed any particular value) stepped into the work God had for them that day and made a huge difference. The message for us is that as we each simply do what God lays before us each day loving others, being present to them, encouraging them, resting in God’s peace and joy no matter what is going on around us, God weaves our seemingly insignificant little pieces into a quilt of His love and righteousness with which He covers the world. Every person matters. Every person and probably most especially your nephew….Going to ramble on a bit more (if you permit me)… Read 1 Cor. 12:12-26 (especially 21-26) and think about it. God made our bodies so the parts everyone admires – like our eyes, hands, arms, legs, hair, etc we can live without. But who ever says, “my, you have beautiful kidney!” or “wow, what a pancreas!” or “your lungs are stunning!”. And yet without these parts of the body, we die. Thus that which is not admired and receives no recognition is actually the most important part of all……thus, your nephew in his innocence probably reflects more of God and His priorities than most people ever understand. Every person is of equal value in the eyes; every person – no matter what. THANK YOU so much for connecting and sharing! LOL, didn’t mean to write this much! God bless you, Mike! ~ for His glory, Elizabeth

      1. So…what the Lord had me write you reminded me that more people need the message of the value of every individual, so your message became the inspiration for today’s devotion. 🙂 God bless you! ~ Elizabeth
