Note: already those of you have subscribed have received a blog post from me this morning, written a few days ago which the LORD had me schedule for publication today.   However, He is prompting me strongly that the devotion He has just had me write also needs to be published today.  This message is important for someone to be able to find and read.  It is never my intent to overload your Inbox!!! May God be with each of you in a special way today.  May He reveal a deeper truth of who He is so you can rest in Him even more than ever before.  As a result may He shine through you with increase that all who encounter you may know He is God, for His glory! ~ Elizabeth

10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. (Prov 9:10 NIV)

23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (Col. 3:23-24 NIV)

10 Receive my instruction in preference to [striving for] silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold,  11 For skillful and godly Wisdom is better than rubies or pearls, and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. [Job 28:15; Ps. 19:10; 119:127.]  Prov. 8:10-11 (Amplified)

So often we live our lives for others.  We desire to please them. We seek their approval.  We want to be affirmed in who we are and what we are doing.

It seems God did create us with this desire for approval.  We want to be loved not hated, accepted not rejected, affirmed and not condemned.  Not only do we desire this, we seek it because the need comes from deep within.  But this need will never be fulfilled for us completely by another human being.  We cannot do this perfectly for those we love and no one can do it perfectly for us. This is because God created us to have these needs which could be fulfilled perfectly only by Him.  We need Him. That’s all there is to it.

This is one of the reasons why God tells us we are to fear Him and that this fear of the Lord is the beginning of true Wisdom ~ His Wisdom. (True Wisdom is from God alone; there is nothing more valuable than this.  Those who have nuggets of God’s wisdom, have jewels of the most supreme worthy  ~ fragments of the only wealth which is lasting.)

Fear of the Lord is a concept foreign to many of us.  This does not mean God wants us to be “afraid” of Him. Consider for a moment what causes you to act or not act in different circumstances.  What is the motivator?  Frequently it is fear or worry that someone won’t respond well (in the manner we think we want or need) if we don’t do something/say something a particular way.  In essence, we have a “fear” of this person, group or organization’s disapproval.  To the extent this is true, we will put trying to do things in a way that pleases this person or entity ahead of working to obey (and thus please) God.

Thus to fear the Lord, is to want to obey and please Him above all else and regardless of potential personal consequences.  There is freedom from the expectation and condemning eyes of others when we focus purely on obeying and pleasing God.  Rejection, condemnation, criticism, envy, back-biting, etc of others no longer holds us captive when our focus is on fear of our  Lord.  What others say about us simply doesn’t matter because we are living in sweet fellowship (partnership) with God, walking out our role in His purposes.  We seek His approval alone, resting in the fact that He will always love us infinitely.  And when we make mistakes (which we will), He forgives us and forgets as soon as we come to Him and ask.

Fear of the Lord is an expression of our trust in Him as God.  If He is God, then He is superior to every individual in humankind.  Every individual is fallible; He is perfect.  Fearing Him (respecting Him – His Word, His promises, His plan and instructions) above anyone else’s is an integral expression of authentic faith!

This is the reason why God tells us the fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom.  It is foundational to everything else in relationship with God.  Fear doing things in a way that pleases Him (and He is not hard to please) above all else and receive His peace and joy!

20 From where does Wisdom come? And where is the place of understanding?  21 It is hidden from the eyes of all living, and knowledge of it is withheld from the birds of the heavens.  22 Abaddon (the place of destruction) and Death say, We have [only] heard the report of it with our ears.  23 God understands the way [to Wisdom] and He knows the place of it [Wisdom is with God alone].  24 For He looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.  25 When He gave to the wind weight or pressure and allotted the waters by measure, 26 when He made a decree for the rain and a way for the lightning of the thunder, 27 Then He saw [Wisdom] and declared it; He established it, yes, and searched it out [for His own use, and He alone possesses it].  28 But to man He said, Behold, the reverential and worshipful fear of the Lord–that is Wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.  (Job. 28:20-28 Amplified)

PSALM 61 (Amplified)

1 Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.  2 From the end of the earth will I cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and fainting; lead me to the rock that is higher than I [yes, a rock that is too high for me].  3 For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me, a strong tower against the adversary.  4 I will dwell in Your tabernacle forever; let me find refuge and trust in the shelter of Your wings.  Selah [pause, and calmly think of that.] 5 For You, O God, have heard my vows; You have given me the heritage of those who fear, revere and honor Your name…..8 So I will sing praise to Your name forever, paying my vows day by day.

Selah! [Pause and calmly think of that!]  END

I am a God-seeker--a Jesus-worshipper--a Holy Spirit follower. I create songs, devotions, prayers, books and Bible studies to give words with which to get to know God more. For you. Its for one-on-One encounter unto transformed, transcendent living. This is not my vocation. I am not professional. I am a real, ordinary person just looking to do what God put me here to do. (You have a unique purpose too.) So I am called to the work. It is not my income source, but my gift to those who find it blessing. Eagles Nest Foundation sponsors all projects for you. The result: pure, clean spiritual nutrition to feed that deep insatiable spiritual hunger which eventually overtakes each of us and galvanizes you to the life God has for you. This life is purposeful. Exceptional. You--yes, you--are called to something greater and more satisfying in His service. So it is hoped you'll try this spiritually dense nutrition and find it to be a personal blessing. However, the goodness of God-following doesn't stop there. He uses those who seek Him to be His love and care (justice, mercy, advocate, kindness) very tangibly in the lives of those around you. Not by your power but by His. His ideas. God ideas. Not just good ideas. To be part of changing the world, if you will let Him. You learn to just follow where He leads. That if you listen, He will teach you to hear His voice and then when you obey His inner promptings you will become His incredible hands and feet in this hard world. These materials will help! They will help you aim your life towards God in a way you never look back. You will not be the same. He will become the River in your desert spaces and you will become a conduit of this same River of refreshing, replenishing Water of Life to others. Find a prayer. Pick a blog post. Read a book. Be led deeper into the Bible. Select a song which resonates and use it and use it again to go close and ever closer to the God who longs to draw you near. Oh, and don't be tempted to think I'm a crazy over-spiritualized loony...My background is financial planning and counseling. Almost 40 years of it. To choose to believe in God is not to leave practicality and reason behind, but to learn that there is that which goes beyond it and includes it, unto true life fulfillment beyond all your dreams for the one who keeps seeking Him. I am a third generation Californian. I am a person to whom family means everything. The only priority higher is God. The foothills of the Sierra Nevada are my home. It is here the 1849-1856 Gold Rush is still glorified. Easy money? Actually only for the few. Even though I was raised in the Church, it took me ten years of doubting God even existed to realize that without Him, no matter how much of this life's "stuff" is accumulated, I actually have nothing. To come to know that all those who chased after gold are dead and all those who still chase stuff will be dead. That's when I became a God-seeker. Looking for that more. And Eureka! (This is California's state slogan and means I found it.) I found God...or rather, I discovered He was there and had been there waiting for me to look for Him the whole time. May you discover more of Him for you, greater flourishing life and greater flourishing for all in the world as well. God bless you! ~Elizabeth
