Though always wanting to be a wife, mom and writer, I came out of college with a degree in foreign languages and landed a job in personal finance, where I had a steep learning curve, because personal money management and investing are generally not taught in our society. The job was more than a way to earn; it was a way to help others through teaching and advising. After 15 years, in the mid-1990’s I was blessed to step out of working full-time outside the home into full-time motherhood and home management. But despite my many prayers, the LORD would never completely let me leave the personal finance field behind. I continued to be led to help select clients privately on a very part-time basis. In 2001 I earned the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) designation and in 2011 the AFC (Accredited Financial Counselor) designation.
Now that our children are grown and beginning to venture out on their own, He has called me back to increase my writing, teaching and advising on the subject, but this time from a Kingdom of God perspective. How does God see our money? How would He have us manage it? What are His promises relative to money? What is the best way to avoid frivolity and become financially fit in order to better withstand economic storms, but without hoarding? How does money work? How do investments work? How are we to decide individually what is right and best for each of us regarding our finances? What’s the difference between conventional wisdom regarding personal finance, and God’s?
This “NUGGETS OF GOD’S WISDOM” blog is about Kingdom living: living each day as the citizens of God’s kingdom we become when we profess our faith. God’s way is different than what secularism has led us to believe. Therefore, as the Holy Spirit leads, you will find periodic posts on managing money God’s way as an integral part of this blog.
God is unchanging. His methods are consistent. Thus what we see in the visible, natural physical realm gives us a picture of how things work in the invisible, supernatural spiritual realm. Jesus spoke in parables, many of which drew on nature to help listeners understand His Father’s Kingdom way.
The first societies did not have money as we know it. They were hunter/gatherer, then farming. In order to provide for their families, they had to understand and work with how God created things to be. For instance, if they did not go out and gather berries and hunt meat, then prepare and cook it, there was nothing to it. If they ate all they had, didn’t feel like harvesting whent the crops were ripe, or wasted everything at the time of harvest without setting aside seeds for the next planting and storing provision which would provide enough to eat until the next harvest, they would starve to death in-between. Thus there were certain survival principles which were clear-cut for them. In a world of supermarkets, fast food and ATMs, where money is the vehicle by which we provide for ourselves and our families, these have become more blurred. Yet, as surely as gravity remains one of the forces God placed as part of our earthly existence, these principles remain.
We need to remind ourselves of how God created our lives to be, looking again at the underlying principles which create the foundation. This is not hard; it is fundamental. It will help us put His order to our lives, that we might be better able to see His direction, rejoice, rest in Him regardless of circumstances and receive an increasing gift of His inner peace (with which He can woe the world).

May God be with us always, guiding and directing our every step for our blessing and His glory.

10 For though the mountains should depart and the hills be shaken or removed, yet My love and kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace and completeness be removed, says the Lord, Who has compassion on you…..Seek, inquire for, and require the Lord while He may be found [claiming Him by necessity and by right]; call upon Him while He is near, 7 Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the Lord, and He will have love, pity, and mercy for him, and to our God, for He will multiply to him His abundant pardon. 8 For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are you ways My ways, sayd the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts. 10 For as the rain and snow come down from the heavens, and return not there again, but water the earth and make it to bring forth and sprout, that it may give seek to the sower and bread to the eater, [2 Cor. 9:10.] 11 So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth; it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless[, but it shalll accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. 12 For you shall go out [from the spiritual exile caused by sin and evil into the homeland] with joy and be led forth [by your Leader, the Lord Himself, and his word] with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. 13 Instead of a thorn shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the lord for a name of renown, for an everlasting sign [of jubilant exaltation] and memorial [to His praise], which shall not be cut off. (Isa. 54:10, 55:6-13 Amplified)
