When we cry out for help and there seems to be no answer, there is One who can (and does). In fact, He never fails. And the answer He will bring at exactly the right moment is far superior to that for which we have been asking.
His answer is always a kingdom-of-God-oriented answer with consequences which reach far beyond each of us as individuals and our individual cries for help. He is always about His restoration business – the work of offering knowledge of His Son and illuminating our need for Him to as many as will see and hear He is God.
He uses us and how He answers our prayers to give those near to us opportunity to know HE IS. He is all-knowing, all-powerful, perfect Daddy and so sometimes His answer is not what we thought we wanted at all, and yet in time He will show the eternal good He can bring out of the worst with which the enemy tries to inflict us and those we love.
We must always remember we can expect our lives to look like that of Jesus. Jesus suffered; Jesus died; yet through His sacrifice we all have been offered reunion with God for eternity. We will suffer; we will die; and God is with us.
Now we can choose to say the way of following Jesus is too hard if it means there will be suffering and ultimate death. Yet, consider this: has any person whether they chose to follow Jesus or not avoided all suffering? Have they avoided ultimate death?
Every generation which has gone before is completely past. They are all physically dead – every single one. Only for those who served God as King, Savior and Lord was the end of their physical lives the door to something infinitely better, which began with a celebration to finally be relieved of duty as an ambassador here and enabled to come home. Only for those who gave their lives to God to use as He sees fit now.
It is a daily choice – our personal way or God’s. Only in God’s is there true fulfillment and purpose. All other ways lead to dissatisfaction and discouragement.
And so when we kneel before Him, bow and say, “my Savior and Lord”, we begin to listen for our Master Shepherd’s voice realizing we are mere sheep, realizing He will protect us, provide for us and never let us go. Then we begin to seek to walk out His will and the times come when it doesn’t seem to be working. It is in these moments we need to take our eyes off everyone else as the possible answer and look again at Jesus (which is the only place we should have been looking in the first place). We bow before Him and cry out, “You are our only Refuge and Strength, an ever-present help; You hear us when we call!”
Selah. (Pause and calmly think of that.) END
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea (Ps. 46:1-2)
Surely God is my help; the LORD is the one who sustains me. (Ps. 54:4)
I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip – he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you – the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. (Ps. 21)
So do not fear, I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand…For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (Isa. 41:10,13)
Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. (Ps. 63:7)
