The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance. (Ps. 33:11-12)
If the GOD of the Bible is real (and if we call ourselves Christians this is a pre-requisite of our faith), then it matters to whom we pray. There is a HUGE difference between acknowleding the one true GOD as GOD and interacting with random “spirits” or gods.
First let us be clear on one point. If GOD as revealed in the Bible is real, then reality is much more than what we experience with our five natural senses. The invisible, supernatural, spirit realm is real! There are two sides to this spirit realm: those who are with GOD and those who are opposed to GOD. There are only these two sides and there is no “safe” middle ground. As Jesus said, “Whoever is not with me is against me..” (Matt. 12:30)
God is Supreme. All other supernatural powers are less than He. They have to be because He is the only Creator. He is the only One who was not created, is eternal and unchanging, is, was and is to come.
To be part of GOD’s kingdom, we have to acknowledge Him as King. This isn’t because He needs our acknowledgement. He IS who He is (and has always been). Our opinion will never change that. We need to acknowledge His position in our life, or He will honor our free will choice to make something else more important than He is and leave us on our own. He honorings our choices out of love for us.
Adam and Eve were cast from the intimate, eternal presence of GOD not as much because they ate of the forbidden apple, but because this action meant they had put the serpent above GOD in authority over their lives by following what the serpent said instead of what God had said. In essence, GOD honored their choice to accept Satan’s authority over His own.
GOD never has described His realm as a democracy. It can’t be. He is the One with all the power, wisdom and plan. We are the created and will never equal the Creator. He is the Father; we the adopted children. He is the Master; we the servants. He is LOVE; we let His love flow through us to others His way.
For years now there has been a trend in society to discount GOD, spreading into society’s subconscious that we can live whatever way we want because GOD is love and mercy, therefore He will love us no matter our choices.
True, He is love and mercy and His love is infinite and neverending. But He loves us so much, He honors our free will choices. We are either with Him or against Him. If He is our GOD (which presupposes we honor and treat Him as such), then He is our covering: He loves us, forgives us, protects and provides for us. If we do not choose Him to be GOD through our actions which are a direct result of our faith, then because He loves us so much, He honors our choice and leaves us to our own devices. No one will enter the kingdom of GOD for whom GOD is not King and Supreme Being in their lives.
Thus is matters who we worship! It matters to whom we direct our prayers! It matters where we place importance and whom we make our priority! It matters if we look ANYWHERE else for answers! Looking to any other source as the answer to our problems (i.e., money, horoscope, mediums, lottery, good luck, good vibes, a person in authority for favor, etc.) puts these in position of god over our lives instead of GOD. It matters whether we think GOD is in control or if we think we rule our own destiny! It matters whether or not we seek to listen for His voice and try to follow where He leads (as Jesus, our example, did) or just live oblivious to His will, expecting His blessing.
We need to get back to the basics of GOD as GOD. We need to realize there is nothing else we need besides Him and His Lordship over us. He takes care of everything else. All we have to do is give Him first place, listen and obey.
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matt. 6:31-33)
What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to him? And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous decrees and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today? Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them….Therefore watch yourselves very carefully, so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves and idol, an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman, or like an animal on earth or any bird that flies in the air, or like any creature that moves along the ground or any fish in the waters below. And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars – all the heavenly array – do not be enticed to bowing down to them and worshiping things the LORD your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven….After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time – if you then become corrupt and make any kind of idol, doing evil in the eyes of the LORD your God and arousing his anger, I call the heavens and earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live there long but will certainly be destroyed. The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive among the nations to which the LORD will drive you. There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell. But if from there you will seek the LORD your God, youw ill find him if you seek with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him. For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath….Acknowledge and take heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above and on earth below. There is no other. Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the LORD your God give you for all time. (Deut. 4:7-9,15-19,25-31,39-40)
