Why do we make it so complicated? If we choose to believe God is God, why do we sometimes act in our relationship with Him as if we were God and He our servant, instead of how it really is?
God calls us to honor Him as God. Seems like a pretty logical next step. If we decide we believe that He is God (that is, Supreme Ruler over all, superior to all other beings), then it seems natural that we would want to literally bow to Him, submit to His commands and live His Way. We wouldn’t resent it, we would crave it! If He is God, then by definition of His name, there is an assumption that He is superior, meaning His way has got to be better than our own. This makes submitting to Him an act of great anticipation of the good He will bring through it.
It seems so simple, so natural. Instead often we either assert we have a right to decide how He should be (putting us in the position of creator and God in the role as our creation for our convenience), or we view Him as a vehicle to accomplish our own goals (instead of understanding we were created to partner with Him on His.)
How do we come to the point where we think we have a right to decide what type of Being God should be and how He operates? Doesn’t this make Him less than God? For if we truly could determine the attributes of God by our own free will, then we would be the supreme being and He would not.
Do we really think through our free will and independent thinking we can change the nature of eternal, unchanging God? If He is God, He tells us how He is, we don’t tell Him how He should be.
If we believe He is God, we should be running to Him, excited to hear His thoughts, embrace His plan and lay our burdens at His feet, rejoicing that we no longer have to carry them. We should be joyfully anticipating living more and more the way He prescribes because we know if He is God, then there must be nothing better. It is that for which we were created!
We need to reconsider our faith. Do we really believe He is GOD, or Santa Claus by another name? How will we show Him today? He is waiting for us to recognize Him for who He is;
He says, “Be still and know I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Ps. 46:10)
He has so much to share with us: “This is what the LORD says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it – the LORD is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ “(Jer. 33:2-3) “‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the LORD. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.'” (Isa. 55: 8-9)
He is waiting for us to embrace the joy and freedom of His Way.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 6:22-23)
The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations… In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. (Ps. 33:10-11,21)
We never walk alone; He is our guide.
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them. But those who trust in idols, who say to images, ‘You are our gods,’ will be turned back in utter shame. (Isa. 42:16-17)
The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. (Isa. 58:11)
The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (Psalm 23)
Listen. Be still. Know He is God. Rejoice. (Selah! – pause and calmly think of that!) END
